Im just having a really bad day. My ex husband has been unemplyed since Jan 2009 . My child support has been lowered down to a small amount I cant take care of our kids on. I have been a stay at home Mom going to school and am currently married. Problem is that I still pay a fair share of the bills in my house and cant continue to do that unless I get a job. I dont qualify for any type of assistance whatsoever. No child care, no nothing. Its all on me and I have not had a job since before I was first married 20 years ago.

I have worked very hard to apply to the LPN program and really worried that if I get accepted I will not be able to do it. When the kids go back to school I am looking for a job. Pray that my ex husband can get a job so I can finish school.( He got his masters degree when we were married)

Have you tried talking to your school's financial aid office? You may qualify for more financial aid, or there more be more programs available to help. Where I live, there is a program called WorkSource that will pay for school, books, uniforms, gas money, and other things for nursing students who have been laid off or are in similar situations. Or maybe the school can help you find a job. Apply for public assistance if you're not already on it. You can do it!

I hope that you find a way to make it through this. It's frustrating to be sooo close to something that you want so bad yet feel so far away from it at the same time. Talk to t he financial aid dewpartment at your school and see what they can suggest. They may even have a work study program where you work on campus to make a bit of money while you go to school. Best of luck to find a solution.

Where I live we can go to the Unemployment office ( Texas workforce commission) and they will pay for school, daycare, gas and some other things. Not sure if this helps, but its worth a shot.

Sometimes your actual nursing department has grants, loans and scholorships. My girlfriend was in a similar situation in our second semester and she went and talked the head of our nursing department and she ended up getting a $3,000 grant type thing to pay off her bills. I don't know the full story, other than there are options out there for you. Don't give up, look into things

First, I would like to say I understand how difficult this is for you. Just know you aren’t alone. Several people on this thread have suggested talking to a Financial Aid Counselor. This is certainly the first step. There are so many different grants and loan options out there. I hope I understood your post correctly. You are a single mother and not working correct? If this is the case, you will automatically qualify for a full Pell Grant which I think is about $ 6,000/yr. Most states offer similar grants that will pay for your tuition, books and fees, and living expenses.

Before getting discouraged, apply to the program. Once you are accepted, discuss your situation with the Financial Aid person. Be certain your FAFSA form has been completed by the deadline. There are also other programs available. Do a search on the site for scholarships. Members have done an excellent job of listing the most current grants along with criteria and contact information.

Thank you all for such good advice. No, Im married. That is where I have run into problems. My husband does not bring in enough to cover all the bills but too much for me to get any financial aid. Im just going to take it one day at a time and I will try to apply for the pell grant again.
