Please help!

I took Biology & Chemistry in high school 30+ years ago and passed. I can't remember either subject. I'm signed up for A&P I and I wanted to find out if I should drop the A&P I and sign up for Biology and Chemistry? Is it possible to pass A&P I and II without remembering Biology and Chemistry?

Thanks for your help!

Is it possible to pass A&P I and II without remembering Biology and Chemistry?

Yes. I just returned after being out for many years. AP1 was my first class back, and I made a 97, AP2 made a 99. I wouldn't take anything extra that isn't required for my degree, but that is just me. I am in a hurry to be done! I will be taking chemistry this semester as my final pre requisite for nursing school. I can say that AP did make Micro much easier, because many of the topics were the same, just a different level of depth.

I started this year with general chemistry, then anatomy, but dropped anatomy after I didn't do well on my first chemistry exam (2 different schools).

It was too late to drop Chemistry. The Community College I attended offers two: a general scope Chemistry that's catered for nursing and General Chemistry for STEM majors. The latter I made it into that best fit my schedule. In retrospect after so much time offi should have taken INTRO to refresh chemistry in my mind *or* taken the nursing chem. if your school only offers Gen Chem, definitely take intro.

In regards to taking Biology, since I'm getting ready to start Anatomy again, I can't accurately tell you, but I don't believe it's a must. A&P I is a no prerequisite class, but make sure you hit the ground running. It is all about memorization starting from day 1 (or sooner if you have your books and syllabus early). I bought extra tools online like a coloring book (blush) to help better connect actions, memories and terminology.

Depends on how well you do in sciences. The last time I took bio or Chemistry was over 10 years ago and I didn't remember anything either. I went right into A&P 1 and got an A. I made sure to read BEFORE class and if there was something I didn't quite understand I would use the extras that came with my online access or YouTube videos. But I also love science. I never felt during class that I wished I had taken bio or Chemistry over again

Soo glad this question was asked. I'm in the same boat. I had HNR Chem in HS about 20yrs ago and haven't taken a science course since (my BA is in English) until I became a licensed esthetician two years ago. Now I'm returning to school to take four required nursing pre-reqs: A&P1&2, psych life span, and microbio. CNA cert pre-req was removed this semester. I'm starting with A&P1 and CNA cert (we still get points for the cert). The closer we get to January, I'm nervous about returning to FT traditional schooling after nine years and taking sciences w/o taking a refresher. The pre-req to A&P1 was HS chem so I enrolled. I plan on taking full use of our tutor service at school if need be. I'm also spreading my four couses out over a year because they're all science except for one. Best wishes next semester!

I feel like the one chapter in A&P that went over chemistry provided the information I needed to understand the future parts of class that were relevant to it. We didn't spend much time on the full chapter in class but I made sure to take notes and more importantly understand the material before class. And the chapter was always there if I ever needed a quick refresher on a particular portion. I think you both will be fine!

It is possible to pass A&P without remembering about biology and chemistry but I would suggest pre reading the chapter before lecture so you can ask questions if you get stuck in those areas after class. As long as you keep up with the coursework, you should be OK without retaking those classes.

I did accelerated A&P courses back to back this last semester and while they were definitely difficult, I managed an A in both classes. I graduated 2002 and have taken ZERO science since then. I will point out that I took chem simultaneously (didn't find it lent itself to the course, I'm sure Bio would have in some areas) and really really struggled with it. I managed a C which I'll take as a win since it's not considered part of my program app, but basically your ability to pass a college chem course is not indicative of your ability to ace A&P.
