  1. Good luck everyone. I also applied and haven't heard anything back yet.
  2. I am writing a paper on pressure ulcers because think that they are expensive and difficult to treat. Pressure ulcers also decrease the quality of life for patients and increase mortality, especially in the elderly. I was wondering if anyone's unit uses pressure ulcers as a quality indicator. If it does, do you know what is the rate of pressure ulcers on your unit? Does your facility utilize a multidisciplinary wound care team or does the wound care team comprise of only nurses? Thanks for your help.
  3. Thanks Rocknurse. I really appreciate the help.
  4. I haven't tried that yet. Thanks for the suggestion. I will try that. I am just worried that they might think it's weird if I contacted them for an interview.
  5. Hi. I have an upcoming assignment for my nursing informatics class that requires me to interview an RN who is a nursing information expert. Job titles that may be acceptable for this assignment include nursing clinical information manager, super user, director/manager clinical education, chief information officer, quality assurance or performance improvement nurse, nurse informaticist, telenursing specialist, nurse abstractor, case manager, and compliance nurse. I have 8 short interview question to ask related to this field of nursing. I know that your time is valuable so if there is anyone that can help me or refer me to resources where I can someone to interview, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
  6. Congrats. I'm happy for you. Good luck with your interview.
  7. You can get Microsoft office free sometimes if you enter your student email and your school is on the list of one of the applicable schools. I attended an ADN program and used my school email to get Microsoft office for free for four years. I would try that before buying anything. If it doesn't work, you can always use Google Docs to type your papers.
  8. It is normal to be nervous. Many students are nervous even when they've had experience in the health care setting. Since it is your first semester, they probably will not let you go off on your own without any instructions or guidance. Usually there is some sort of orientation about what to expect, maybe a tour of the unit you will be on, and a scavenger hunt to find the crash cart, fire extinguishers/alarms, exits, supplies, etc. You will probably get only one patient to work with during your first clinical week and it's good to check if that patient is willing to work with a student to make it less nerve wracking for you. Most patients I have met welcome students. They meet so many people throughout the day that assess their health that they could probably teach you a few things. You can also find support from your classmates. They may be as anxious on the first day as you are.
  9. Study groups are good if you need some motivation to set time aside to study or people to bounce concepts off but it does not replace reading. I recommend joining study groups if you have time for it and if you find yourself not focused when studying alone.
  10. Congratulations. I'm glad you didn't give up. I took Kaplan too to prepare. Scores are not everything. Like you, I didn't score really high on Kaplan. I'm not sure I passed, still waiting for the results but the anxiety of taking a test is hard. I think that's the hardest part about taking any test. You just have to go in focused and leave the baggage at the door. In the worse case scenario, if you don't pass, you can take it again and work on areas you needed to improve on.
  11. You would be okay without retaking it. Some schools only takr the first passing grade also. Sociology is not a course that they weigh heavily and a B is not that bad. I would just focus on the other classes you need unless you don't need any more.
  12. Fall seems pretty intense to me but it depends on how prepared you feel. Many times counselors create the SEP hoping for the best possible outcomes without making it based on each individual. I would see how spring semester goes first. Don't overwhelm yourself with the need to finish within a certain semester if you need more study time with a particular class, especially with the nursing prereqs. Everyone is different though. If you aren't sure you need the history class, why don't you check if you can swap it for the statistics class. Math gives some people anxiety and communications is a relatively easy class as long as you actively participate.
  13. It is possible to pass A&P without remembering about biology and chemistry but I would suggest pre reading the chapter before lecture so you can ask questions if you get stuck in those areas after class. As long as you keep up with the coursework, you should be OK without retaking those classes.
  14. I wouldn't recommend it unless you can't get through college without working. Going to college for any major is already stressful and full of distractions. Most colleges will want you to get a B or better in the nursing prerequisites so stay focused if you can.
