BFA holding trying to learn the best route to become a nurse

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping to gain a little insight on the best possible way to become a nurse. I have looked into programs and am well aware of the pre-reqs I will have to take. I am working on getting enrolled into a school to do so. My biggest question just being should I work my way up to being a nurse, as far as the different titles and education? Would it be worth going for my associates first? Or is that dragging everything out much longer than I need to? I am just hoping to begin working in the field asap and then maybe continue to work towards a higher education in nursing.

I live in Colorado Springs and have come across an accelerated nursing program that I could essentially be a part of in the spring of 2016, by time my pre-reqs are done. The program only has 1 start up date each year and is a 16 month program that leads to a BSN. This still seems like the best option but I am just looking for a little insight from people who know more about the field than I do. Any advice and opinions will be greatly appreciated!

Don't bother with your associates. I also have a BFA in dance and am almost done with my second bachelors (BSN). Accelerated programs are great, just know that they are FAST and tough.

How long did it take you to do your pre-reqs? and how did you do them? Do you mind if I ask where you are enrolled in your program? I would just like to compare. Thanks!!

University of San Francisco is where I go. I finished all of my prerequisites in about two semesters, simply because most of them were already done with my first degree. I did physiology online (regret it) and anatomy in class (loved it). Absolutely loved microbiology and plan on doing it over and over again.

USF does not require you to have finished prerequisites at the time of application submission.

Thank you! I am just feeling overwhelmed at the moment with the amount of prerequisites that I would need to take for the program. I am looking at about 12 and they do need to be completed before even applying. I am just hoping it all ends up worth while going to school for that many years once you combine both the bachelors degrees. haha. :)
