arapahoe community college CO. new waiting list procedures

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

i am glad they are going to an competitive wait list process rather than the first come first serve. i am starting my prereqs and should be finished in time for there new accepting date. although you do have to be a nursing assistant and take those classes before you can qualify for there program and i dont know how long that takes. this is the email i got this week.

through the collaborative efforts of the vice president of instruction, the dean of health sciences and engineering, the registrar, and the director of the arapahoe community college nursing program, the nursing application/admission process will change effective december 19, 2008. as a result, every attempt is being made to identify students who may be working toward completing the current required pre-requisite courses to be placed on the associate degree nursing (adn) program waitlist.

since fall 2003, the arapahoe community college nursing program has participated in a "first come first served" application process, in which a minimum set of criteria have been required to apply for a place on the nursing program waitlist. as a result, the average wait between award of a waitlist number and acceptance into the program has been at least[color=#ff0066]three years. after december 19, 2008, the application process will change from the practice of "first come first served" to a[color=#ff0066]competitive selection process[color=#ff0066][color=#ff0066].

for students who will complete the current required pre-requisites by the end of the fall 2008 semester, an application, valid through december 19, 2008, is attached. you may call 303-797-5939 or email [email protected] for information and the application packet. deadline to apply under the current criteria is december 19, 2008.

the five pre-requisite courses that must be completed by december 19, 2008 to apply for a waitlist number are:

eng 121 english composition

psy 235 human growth and development

bio 201 human anatomy and physiology i

bio 202 human anatomy and physiology ii

bio 204 microbiology

the above five courses must equal a 2.5 grade point average, and all "bio" courses must be within 7 years, both at the time of application and when the student is accepted into the nursing program.

for students who will not complete the current requirements by december 19, 2008, be advised applications will no longer be accepted for the arapahoe community college nursing program under the current[color=#ff0066]waitlist criteria[color=#ff0066]after december 19, 2008. the application process will be reopened when all students who have been placed on the waitlist through december 19, 2008 have been accepted[color=#ff0066]into the nursing program. the estimated time to re-open the nursing competitive selection[color=#ff0066]process here at arapahoe community college is fall 2011[color=#ff0066]but keep in mind that this is a "best guess" and may occur earlier or later.

the current five pre-requisite courses (listed above) will still be required under the new competitively-based application process however the required minimum[color=#ff3399]grade point average will change to 3.0. all candidates who apply under the new process will also[color=#ff0066]be required to posses a nurse assistant certificate. additional requirements for the new application will be published in spring 2009. if you have questions, please contact carmella in the nursing department, at 303-797-5939 or email [email protected].
