Applying to CCAC nursing program but haven't taken A&P

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am applying for CCAC's RN program over the summer for the Spring 2011 semester. I have completed two semesters of prereqs and got a 4.0 both semesters.

I am concerned because I have not taken any A&P classes yet. They aren't required to get into the program but I know you receive extra points towards your total score and it seems everyone else has completed at least one of the A&P classes. I also am worried how this will effect my score on the PAX as I will have to study on my own what most people learn over a full semester (not to mention the physics).

Just wondered if anyone got into the program without completing any A&P classes prior to applying. I worked really hard to get good grades and would hate to have to wait another semester just because I haven't taken this class yet.

When I applied I was in A&P 1 so it didn't count. I did not have Micro completed either. I was still accepted to my first choice campus.

I had a 3.8 with every other class done besides actual NRN classes. My NET scores were pretty high as well.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

When I applied I was currently in A&P 2 and another chem pre-req. I also still needed A&P 1 (we could take them out of order) and micro which I took that summer. So I was missing many classes! Also most of my now nursing classmates were in the same courses with me, and we all got in. Good luck

Thank you both so much. I wasn't concerned before but when I started reading posts on here I noticed that most ppl applying had taken both. Then when I thought about it, most ppl were in classes with were currently taking one of them.

I feel better knowing others in my position got in. Now I just have to study hard for the PAX!

Thanks again.

No problem!! Good luck to you!

I know South offers one on one tutoring for each subject of the Pax for free at the LAC. It is an hour session for each part that you need. I saw a sign for it in the hallway.

I got a composite percentile score of 96 and composite score of 140 and I have never taken A&P. I plan on taking A&P 1 and 2 and Microbio this year. You'll do fine.

Hi everyone, I was wondering what the requirements are to get into CCAC nursing program. I am from California and attended a four year state university over here. I am considered a junior and I have a 2.3. I want to transfer into CCAC, is my gpa too low? Would they consider my entire gpa or just the gpa of classes that would be transferable? Please help! THANKS!!!

I think they require 2.5 GPA but I'm not sure if thats from HS or college. I would talk to an adviser.

I believe, per CCAC website, that the minimum gpa for eligibility for admission to CCAC Nursing program is 2.5. If you have taken more than 12 credit at CCAC, I believe they count only your gpa from those ccac courses. If you took fewer than 12 credits at CCAC and you took courses at another college, they count the gpa from combining your grades at those schools together. Hope that helps!

i have a question, everyone. i have all of my prerequisites except for one. however, i have very high grades from college and highschool. can u possibly get accepted into the program, if you are missing a prerequisite, but have very good grades. also, i have taken extra classes like anatomy and pyschology and passed with an a. i would think that with all of these combined with my pax score, i would have a shot of getting accpeted into the program???

Well, they determine admissions based on your college gpa, having the prereqs (chemistry, bio and 1-credit computer elective) and your PAX scores. They assign you a score based on your numbers in gpa and PAX results. Then, if you have completed API, II, and/or Micro, you get "bonus" points according to your grades in those classes; ie, for an "A" in API you get .75 pts added to your final total. A "B" is worth .5 and a "C" counts for .25. Repeat that for grades in APII and Micro.

So, yeah, as long as you have your prereqs done and have decent PAX scores, my guess is that you would stand a good chance at being accepted.

Take note though that the deadline to apply for Spring, '11 admission is August 31.

I can't say for definite, but in my opinion, no you wouldn't get in. The word prerequisite implies it's neccesity. The program is very competitive. Read through some of the posts on here and you will find many people who have all there bio courses and scored in the 90th percentiles on their PAX. There is no shortage of qualified candidates. The application also reiterates multiple times that you must complete ALL prerequisites before the application deadline.

Once again, this is just my personal opinion but if I were you, I'd take the prereq you need this spring and apply for fall. It sounds like you'll be a shoe in once you have all the neccessary classes so why waste the time and energy before you qualify?
