Acceptance letter to UCHSC Nursing School!

:hatparty: I am so excited because I was starting to get worried. The University of Colorado Health Science Center was my first choice. If anyone has gone through the program or has any advice please let me know. Congradulations to everyone else too!

Hey-I have not been through that program but am hoping to apply for the accelerated BSN program in a few years. I'm going to an info session next month.... any advice? did you have to complete all your pre reqs before applying or can you work on them before you start? Is there a wait list? Thanks for any tips! congrats! I hope to be in your shoes in a few years...

Actually, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do until I was halfway through my junior year! I thought I wanted to apply to medical school but realized my heart was set on nursing- so that left me with about 4 pre-requisites that I needed to complete. I am currently taking Microbiology, nutrition, develop. psych, and intro to sociology- so YES you can definitely work on the pre-reqs- One thing that I should warn you about- I wanted to also do the accelerated program because I will have a B.S. in Biology by May 2005- BUT you have to have a degree the Fall semester before you apply. UCHSC nursing program starts in June. As far as I know- there is no waitlist like community colleges- you are either in or they put you on the waitlist for the current class and if someone decides to not attend they start admitting the waitlisted students, once the class is complete the waitlist is dropped and the application period is closed until the next year. Hmmm tips- the application process is very straightforward- think about why you want to enter nursing, etc and try to dedicate sometime to the community because they ask about that in the essay. If you want to know anything else let me know.

Hi there,

I'm completing my first year at UCHSC's (Traditional BSN program). If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to tell you anything I know. Congratulations! It is a fantastic program and will prepare you well.

I'm currently working on my bachelors degree. I have quite a few semester hours cause I've changed my major several times (over 100) but am now just wanting to finish my bachelors. My plan is to get my bachelors and then to apply to nursing school after I get my bachelors. I was originally going to major in bio to help towards nursing but I registered for school so late that I'm having a REALLY hard time getting into any of the courses I need. I did happen to notice that a lot of psych courses are open and I think I could get a Bachelors in psych a lot faster than if I were to try for a bachelors in Bio. I also do enjoy psych more than I do Bio . But I'm just worried that I may hurt my chances by getting my bachelors in psych rather than bio? As long as I get a degree in a semi related field and do my pre reqs does it matter what my degree is in? (I read through the CU pre reqs and it didn't seem to specify what sort of degree was needed, just the 4 pre req classes they require and a bachelors). Not that it probably matters one way or the other, but I will be attending UCD to get my 1st bachelors. Anyone have any input?

Also I was planning on trying to volunteer for Childrens Hospital even before I heard about the community component of the process, so that'll work

Based on the variety of previous bachelors that my incoming class had, my guess would be that psych versus bio won't make or break your acceptance. Thats my two cents .
Best of luck to you!

Centaurfilly,

There is no 'community component' in your CU NS application. I went to their info session last week and all you do to apply is fill out the app online (including the 1 page essay answering their required questions), have your transcripts sent, and send in your fee. They don't accept letters of recommendation or anything like that. Unless you can fit the info into your essay it is not considered in your acceptance.

I don't have a degree but will be finishing my pre-reqs in the spring of 2010. I am applying during this current application period for the summer 2010/spring 2011 sessions. If you have a previous degree you can apply for the accelerated program, but they can put you into the regular program and you are not allowed to change it...they emphasized to think your program choice through since you are basically stuck with your decision. It is only one semester shorter btw.

I posted some additional information about the CU info session in the Colorado section if you are interested.

Good luck whatever happens, maybe see you on campus!
