Accelerated Program with built-in or minimal pre-reqs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I was wondering if anyone has heard of accelerated bsn or msn programs that starts the program with pre-reqs in the first semester? Schools like Union University only require A&P I and II and General Psychology to be admitted to the program. Once you start the program, you take Micro, Stats, Patho, and Developmental Psychology all within your first session (16 weeks). Does anyone know about any other programs that are similar to this? Thank you!

I have heard of various ADN programs that are similar in that you take your pre reqs along side your nursing classes.

Coming from someone whose taken all the pre reqs though, that sounds really really horrible!

Is there a reason you're in such a rush? I'd hate to see you jump into something like that and find it to be too much. I took a 15 credit semester last spring that included A&P and Micro, while I made it through, it really was miserable!

In what area of the country are you looking? Here in the Northeast, we have CNR (College of New Rochelle) which has an "individualized" accelerated BSN track, where you can continue taking some prerequisites while already in the program it will just take you longer ~ 2 years. Also Yale that has an MSN program does not have prerequisites except the graduate test, so I assume they are taking A&P etc within the program.

It's not that I'm in a rush, I'm just worried about financials. I don't know if I will be able to afford attending school for the pre-reqs plus attending for the nursing degree. I also don't want to have to move from school to school. Ideally, I would take my pre-reqs at the same school that I would receive my nursing degree from.

I am open to moving for a great program. I currently live in East Tennessee. I will do some research on CNR. Thank you!

You have to have a Bachelors for an accelerated BSN degree

Got ya. I can totally sympathize with that. Since I didnt have a bachelors degree I took my pre reqs at a community college and am ttransferring to a 4 year school to get my BSN.

I'm quite aware that I have to have a Bachelors for an accelerated nursing degree. I will graduate in May with my Bachelors degree.

UT Memphis has an ABSN program pre-reqs are A&P1 A&P2 Micro and Stats plus ur normal history and english classes….and the entire program is about $19,000 compared to Union at $50,000ish

Thank you! I'll check them out!
