Accelerated BSN Advice

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am applying to the University of Pittsburgh accelerated program and the deadline is October 1. I just decided to become a nurse so I have little time to put an application together. I have a biology degree and graduated Magna cum Laude. My grades from one school 6 years ago aren't too great though. I worked as a nursing assistant for 7 months at a hospital owned by this school and my review from the NCM was great. However, I had 21 credits at the time and had to give my two weeks over an email due to overload of coursework and senior research.

I have have two professors willing to write recommendations for me. One professor I will definitely use since he is the Chair of biology and in his previous letters he stated I am in the top 5% of students in his career. For the other letter I can use another professor who wrote a wonderful letter about me. I was wondering if I should ask the NCM to write me a letter from the hospital instead. My 6 month review there was perfect, but I feel bad about the way I had to quit. I am not sure what she would say about me though since I quit 2 years ago and if she would even write one at all.

Do I have a good chance of getting in with two awesome letters from these professors? The chair of biology got his PhD at this school and very well respected. Thanks!
