AA (Regular Not RN) To BSN Jump?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello,

I am new to this forum, my apologies. However, I am wondering because I am on the pre-med track right now but I have major financial setbacks right now that make 4 years of Medical school plus 2 years of Ugrad in debt and training a little unobtainable. I am however just as interested in Nursing as I am Medicine (I have major respect for both and I understand there is only a small percentage who can truly feel "okay" in both camps, but I feel I am one of the exceptions.) And I am wondering, since I completed my A.S. in pre-med courses, can I apply for a BSN program that doesn't force me to go through the ADN/ASN to BSN route and make me retake the first two years of Associates over? I would like to get my BSN instead of having to go through the ASN route, I hope that I've made that clear. I mean no disrespect to anyone who has had to endure that route, I just am trying to explore my options.

Thank you!

BSN programs don't make you go through an ASN program first. You will apply to a BSN program and transfer in applicable general education courses from your previous degree. Some of those courses will most likely meet nursing prerequisites, such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, etc. The more courses applicable to your new program, the less you will have to take to meet the BSN degree requirements.

I'm confused your title says you have your AA but your post says you have your AS, which isn't?

If you have your AA and the nursing school prerequisites completed, you can transfer into any in state undergraduate BSN program and finish with a bachelor's in nursing.

This is exactly what I'm doing.

If you transfer to an out-of-state University or have not completed your AA, then in addition to doing your nursing coursework you will need to finish the university's General coursework as well for your bachelors.
