UMSL or Maryville? (Saint Louis)

Does anyone have experience with either school for FNP programs?

I have heard that Maryville is not very selective with their admissions and that everyone who applies pretty much is accepted. This worries me because I want to attend a school with a good reputation. I hear UMSL is more selective.

But Maryville is 8 semesters and UMSL is 9. I would like the shorter program.

Any advice or experiences?

Which one is cheaper? Is one or both for profit? What are both of their accreditations? You may possibly want to apply to both. Or open up your options to other STL schools.

Umsl is cheaper but has higher standards. Maryville has lower admission standards and I've heard nothing but complaints about the program and all the extra busy work. I went with Umsl for BSN and am starting FNP there in the fall. I'm very proud I got into a program with higher standards.

Maryville is for profit. Don't shortchange your education to save one semester.

Maryville is a non-profit school, however, I do hear of a lot getting accepted.

Here's a review I read on an allnurses thread about maryville:

"I began Maryville's FNP online distance program in may. I have worked 60 hrs most weeks and get my homework done during the week at work so I am able to spend my home time with my family. I have gotten almost all A's so far and feel the work is manageable. It does seem even the group that started a couple cohorts before me have had issues but so far I have been happy. I think there are issues with all schools but it is about finding a good fit for you and putting in the work. I believe your life/education is what you make it."

this is person works 60hours a week and finishes their homework while at work...and still gets As. Sounds like the program is far too easy. I don't know why people think a program is good because they can work full time and still get As. Don't people want to be good providers?
