I was one of the lucky ones that got accepted to the University of Tennessee CRNA program for the class starting Jan 2007, First Try :D!!! I have been reading the Basics of Anesthesia by Stoelting and Miller, I was wondering what other books may be helpful to a new SRNA,(SO happy that I can say that!!!). I have looked into Nurse Anesthesia, and Millers Text on Anesthesia. ANy suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

M & M's Clinical Anesthesiology is highly recommended, required, and easier to read than others.. know this and u are golden, both for school and boards...

enjoy !

It amazes me all the questions about pre-studying for school. I never thought to do this back when I went to school. :) I still did well, didn't feel I was ever behind my classmates and had a nice, relaxing time leading up to one of the most stressful times one can imagine. That's my advice. Relax and read a good novel instead of Stoelting. Good luck

I have the same question...I remember a CRNA who posts very frequently (although I can't remember his handle for the life of me...) that strongly recommended "Anesthesia Secrets" by James Duke but I've recently found a "Nurse Anesthesia Secrets" version by Mary Karlet and was wondering which one was better??

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks and Happy 4th!

I agree 100%. I never did any "pre-studying" before I started my program and I have never felt behind or lacking in any of my classes. The program is designed to teach you everything you need to know, and most of your lectures will be much easier to follow than a bunch of stuffy readings out of a textbook. To be honest with you, I only ever use my textbooks to supplement things that I don't really understand from lecture. For those students who have not yet started school, I BEG YOU to relax and spend some time enjoying yourself and your free time before school starts. I would love to have the time to read a "for fun" book or lay on the couch and relax. Once school starts, you'll really wish you had taken it easy beforehand. Best of luck to everyone!!!

AMEN.. Relax and give your 1 month notice.. once it starts you will wish you just chilled out... I think pre-studying will do more harm than good. You will be confused and it will just stress you out... beleive me they will teach you the way of the grass hopper Danielson.:gandalf:

What do you mean guys...these books are the ones I read for fun!!!

Guess I should have disclosed my overachieving, obsessive compulsive tendencies in my request :)

Thank you though for the reassurance that the program will be enough to get us ready...I guess coming from a Nursing school where a lot of the concepts were "self-taught" I'm just in that fend for myself mode.

Thanks again, and don't forget I still wanna know about which book is better "Anesthesia Secrets" or "Nursing Anesthesia Secrets"

Hugs,

L

oh believe me it is still self taught.. but they give you the material to learn. They dont spoon feed you like in your BSN.You will get packet after packet ( oh yeah, a packet is about 50 pages with 6 power point slides on each page ) and they will hit key points and expect you to learn the rest. there is just no reason to read anything now as you wont beable to apply it.

Oh yeah, i love anesthesia secrets.. i actually would look at that book right befor a exam as it would help focus the "major" points of a subject. It is a refrence and I mine looks like it has been through a war :angryfire.. it is tattered and torn to hell..

again relax... i know its hard i was where you were and all freaked out as well.. If i could do it all over again I would have enjoyed more of my free time befor school started
