Second time around
It happens, I think the interview is a huge part of every program. I would reapply to the school you got the best feed back from and apply to 2 new schools. Call the schools and find out what you could have done better. If anything the 3 interviews ahve made you a stronger person and you will show that next time around keep your head up

Good Pre-Study Books?
oh believe me it is still self taught.. but they give you the material to learn. They dont spoon feed you like in your BSN.You will get packet after packet ( oh yeah, a packet is about 50 pages with 6 power point slides on each page ) and they will hit key points and expect you to learn the rest. there is just no reason to read anything now as you wont beable to apply it. Oh yeah, i love anesthesia secrets.. i actually would look at that book right befor a exam as it would help focus the "major" points of a subject. It is a refrence and I mine looks like it has been through a war :angryfire.. it is tattered and torn to hell.. again relax... i know its hard i was where you were and all freaked out as well.. If i could do it all over again I would have enjoyed more of my free time befor school started

school question..
I will graduate in may of 07 and I am done with the didactic part of my program. I agree with turtle.. the material is not hard to learn it is the amount they give you in the time you will need to learn it. I too played around while in nursing school , no way in hell i could have done it like that in this program. If you get behind it is very hard to stay afloat. If your program is like mine is, they throw you into clinical the 3rd month and then you have to worry about studying for both exams and clinical.. the best part is when you have a pharm test and clinical the same day..... fun fun fun, but just remember we have all been there and made it. your first year will be crazy and it will take you about a year to finally adjust.. then it starts to level out... just hang in there. this is just what i went through in the past year and a half... hope it helps good luck

Good Pre-Study Books?
AMEN.. Relax and give your 1 month notice.. once it starts you will wish you just chilled out... I think pre-studying will do more harm than good. You will be confused and it will just stress you out... beleive me they will teach you the way of the grass hopper Danielson.:gandalf:

How intense is it?
Dont have any family members but many people in my class now have families.. There are 3 women who are single moms.. its tough but they do it.. you need a great support system and you can do it good luck
-
How intense is it?
loans loans and loans.... oh wait loans :).. not unless you have saved or your family or spouse helps out. School is number one and they dont let you forget it. If you have a rocky relationship going in to this you may want to hold off. Everything else gets put to second over the school and if you dont have an understanding support system then somthing has to give and its either the school or your relationship. its tough and hurts somethimes.. but i wouldnt change it for the world i would like to see what the devorce rate is for people in Anesth school.. i am sure its high.. we have lost some marriges

PICU/NICU experience
If you have a open heart ICU (CVICU) it will prepare you for most any of the equipment that will be thrown at you in CRNA school. You will want swans, art lines, gtts, central lines, chest tubes, and a place where the unit runs your own codes. Will NICU or PICU work??? sure.. but you may fall behind in some parts. It jsut helps to get you over those humps. just my .02

Admission to CRNA school
There are many ways to get to becoming a CRNA.. your plan will work and that is the biggest part of it.. what works for you and you life at that time. another route is ADN to BSn and you can get your critical care while getting your BSN, so you can apply as soon as you have your BSN. Another thing to think about some programs dont require a BSN just a nursing license (RN) and a bachelors... good luck

University of South Carolina
Good luck man.. I am in the program right now and I enjoy it. Every program has its ups and downs. Some in admissions and some elsewhere. As mentioned, the program has zero residents, so all those great intubations can be yours :).. also this program is very heavy handed on the clinical side ( you are in the OR after your 2nd month)... I am a very hands on person and dont think i could be in other programs where they wait a year to get you in the OR.. You can see a huge difference in the clinical skills of USC students. To those others who let the secretary of the admissions bother you... you have no idea what is in store for you, better toughin that skin up... Good luck its worth it....
