Western University MSN-E Application Time!

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Well, I thought this day would never come, but the application period for Western U's MSN-E program starts a week from today!

I'm beyond nervous, as I've been working on this career change for over three years now. Every time I write a little of my personal statement I get a little shaky. This is so unlike me too, I'm usually cool as a cucumber.

Anyone else here planning to apply for 2012? Are you as nervous as I am?

Are you serious!?!?! WOWOWOW. I think I remember in preview day that they said that could happen. That is crazy. Can't the just keep the date where it's at?? haha. Helps our chances of an interview :)

I know! So true. I was really surprised! I've been working at getting everything done by the deadline and am a little concerned that now others will have plenty of time to apply for 2012. Ah well, these things happen I guess. :p

Hi everyone! I just went on Western's website just to see the checklist for the secondary application and I saw that the deadline was extended to DECEMBER 1! I'm going to call tomorrow to see why. Not that I need the extension, but I wouldn't mind a few extra days to get my personal statement just how I want it. :)

They extended the deadline last year due to problems with NursingCAS. I'm rather bummed out to hear the deadline was extended that far out because that means it will be even longer before we hear back about interviews! I've had my application submitted since 8/15, so the wait is killing me!!!

Well, eventhough the application deadline has been extended-which is kind of frustrating, my application has been submitted. I feel as if a giant weight has been lifted because I want to go to this school so bad! I guess all I can do is wait for my interview letter or my rejection letter to come in the mail, it is now out of my control...

Is anyone willing to share their stats as far as prereq and prev. 60 units gpa? Just wondering...I have heard a lot of people at other programs say that they are applying with 3.0's and what not and just didn't think that that was a competitive gpa, but maybe I am overestimating what is needed. That's why I was wondering what other people had that were/have applied to this program. Good luck to all of those who have already submitted their app! It's time to play the waiting game!

I'm with you on Western being a first choice. In fact it's my ONLY choice and the only school I applied to.

I absolutely don't mind sharing my profile, because hearing others' in past threads has been extremely helpful to me.

From speaking with the admissions counselors (which I've done about a million times over the past couple of years), the only GPA they consider is your last 60 units. Not prereq, not cumulative, just last 60 which is nice because I was an idiot as a teenager the first time I went to college.

My last 60 is a 3.85 and my BS is in Public Health. I have over 1000 hours of hospital volunteer work, but all of it is from many years ago and I have no other medical experience. I'm a 30-something career changer (currently a paralegal), with a husband, a teenager, a huge mortgage and a dream of being a nurse practitioner who focuses on medically underserved populations. I'm both excited about finally getting on the path I've always wanted, and terrified because quitting a well-paying job in this economy is scary. So yeah, that's me. :)

"You recently started an application for the Master of Science in Nursing program at Western....our records show that you're still working on your application. We would like to inform you that the application deadline for Fall 2012 has been extended to December 1..."

Uhmmmmmmmmm. o.O. Is this cause for concern? I turned in my application - both NursingCAS and the secondary and the documents to EDS. Everything was confirmed complete (except they are still waiting on the NursingCAS component) by EDS. Did anyone else get this email even though they are completely done with their apps?

Yeah, I called today and my admissions counselor told me that people were having problems with NursingCAS and getting things in on time, so they extended the deadline for both applications. :/ But nothing that you should be concerned about since you have everything turned in. I turned everything too. I guess people who haven't completed everything are lucky to have more time. Good luck to everyone, btw!!! (Scary!)

Hey Maseca, Thanks for replying to my post, I'm already excited for you b/c from what you are saying, I couldn't see why you wouldn't get it. I'm also totally relieved that someone else with family priorities is applying. I am 24 years old but have an amazing husband and a 2 year old and a 5 month old son. I, and my family, are ready for me to go back to school full time so that I can just get my nursing degree and get my career started.

My stats...B.S. Kinesiology, San Diego State, I think my prev. 60 units is at about 3.75 and I don't have any volunteer experience yet. (I just got accepted for an intern program at Palomar Pomerado...Excited!) So we will see. This is the first school that I have applied to so far, but come January, I'll be applying to about 6 other schools just in case...lol. Well, good luck again!

Hey Everyone!

I am new to allnurses.com but I have read many threads from the past and figured why not join and keep up with my fellow applicants :)

I recently submitted my application about a week ago and was upset to hear back from Western that they are extending their deadline. Since the applications are now submitted, I don't believe that we can go back in to make changes. This is such a bummer since I could have spent nearly another two months doing some extra revisions.

I am very excited yet super nervous of this entire process! Good luck to everyone!

Thanks nuhopeful for replying to my post. I just wanted to know if anyone else received that email even though they turned everything in? Just wanted to double check that it was a mass email sent to everyone...

Hey mochikat. I received that e-mail too. I've turned in everything, but according to the app webpage, they still haven't received my NursingCAS application (even though I submitted it a month ago!).

Same here. NursingCAS shows my app with them as "Complete" as of 9/15, yet Western still doesn't show it as logged into their system. I have an email in to Michelle to inquire about that.
