Vanderbilt Pre-specialty Fall 2011

Hi all!

I just wanted to get a thread started for those who plan on applying to Vanderbilt's prespecialty (for non-nurses) MSN program. I only recently discovered this program about 2 months ago and am absolutely enamored with it! I plan to apply to 8 schools for this cycle, but Vanderbilt is at the very top of my list. I am looking into FNP, which has the distance option. I am not sure whether or not I would prefer to stay at Vanderbilt for the whole program, but I do like that there is the option.

Aside from finishing up micro this summer and taking the GRE in a month, I am fully ready to apply. Just need the application for 2011 to open up!

I will say that I was scanning the website recently... ok STALKING... and the information posted about the MSN / DNP open house for March states something along the lines of pre-specialty programs were expected to be full by March 5th. So.... WON'T BE LONG NOW!!!!!!

i'm going ccccccccrazy over here! My spring break is in two weeks, and that's the only time I have to visit before making any kind of decision, so hopefully we hear soon! I have a note on my fridge for my roommates: "If there is mail from, Vanderbilt, SU, or JHU, CALL ME!" I also have them trained to text me if they get home and there is no mail. hahahahaha

I am wondering what everyone else is thinking about the cost of attending Vanderbilt. Does it seem worth it, and if so, why? I would love to go, but am finding it hard to imagine that much debt!

Of course, I have thought about it a ton and have settled into YES, for ME, it is worth it. It is worth it because there aren't many midwifery programs, and it's one of the best. I am 35, I have 2 kids. I currently have no debt. I hate debt. Nursing school loan repayment programs are numerous, and it really seems like it's entirely manageable if you want it badly enough. Perhaps if I was in a different position, had different life experience, was looking at a different specialty, I might consider more seriously going the less expensive route. It is perfect timing for me with a rising preK and rising 2nd grader. I homeschooled both until this year and my youngest is still at home. There will be huge changes for us, but I am ready and I think in the long run my whole family will benefit. Many people think there's no way I can pull it off, but I'm a dreamer...pretty optimistic. AND...i just caught my rolling pin on fire on the stove (metaphorical?)-- gotta go :)

I've been reading the site for a while but just joined. I called and got the reply of "a few days." That's about as vague as the email saying we'd get letters over the next few weeks, but days are shorter than weeks! The anxiety is killing me. I am a Nashvillian so when we get our acceptance letters, I can answer Nashville questions to the best of my ability.

And I refuse to call it a "decision letter." I'm using the power of positive thinking and calling it an "acceptance letter."
