Did anyone else here apply for the Summer 2011 cohort? :)

accepted for adult health CNS!

How did you receive your acceptance? Thanks!

I just found out via email that I am accepted to the FPMHNP! :yeah: I'm not sure if I'm more excited or terrified!

How did you receive your acceptance? Thanks!

I received an email with a link to my acceptance letter online. They said we need to reserve our spot by the 22nd, but they may be able to extend for a little bit if you're waiting to hear back from other schools.

Hey hey hey! Let's not ruin our Monday here! :p

I haven't heard back yet. Then again, it's not mid-February yet either.

@ NursForLife: Did you get my email? I emailed you!

Hi, no I didn't get your email, maybe my membership has to be upgraded. Sorry. Sent you an email to GMAIL. ;)

Hello All!

Just wanted to put you guys at ease. I was told we find out by EMAIL on March 1st. We will get two notifications from the GIAC and SON. They have never done it by email before... it is a first this year!

Good Luck!

That's weird, are they notifying different sections at different times? I know some of us have already heard.

May seem weird but it's true. People who got into the program have been notified. There will be a second group allowed to enter in as "undecided" because so many qualified applicants applied this year. Those who expressed interest and flexibility in speciality are offered that second option. I was told about this option on my second interview. But that option has 11 spots out of 16. I'm guessing the rest(5) will be on a wait list.

yes... the undeclared will find out March 1st...

Got my acceptance letter from both GIAC and School of Nursing today! Well the GIAC letter came last night.

NursForLife-- Congrats on your acceptance!! I am looking into applying to the Texas AE MSN program and would like to what scores for science GPA and cumulative GPA are competitive? I would just like to know what I need to have to be a successful candidate. Also, what role does clinical experience or volunteer experience factor into the decision? Thanks!

Thanks TXRunner,

Sorry it took me so long to reply

I can't give you specifics for what's competitive, you'd have to contact the SON. I can only give you my experience, but even then, it seems that these decisions are multi-factored. I am a strong student but I have worked heavily in various health care settings. Id like to think I have put in my dues. I had a couple Bs (only one B in science but I was working full time and finished my prereqs in like 9 months while working) but all As I think where it counts.

I would focus on the personal statement, have a strong resume, deliver all your paperwork very professionally, meet nursing professionals in the area you are interested in, and/or have strong references from a health care job. (I even used resume paper for my personal statement- everything matched the way I would submit for a very important job). I wanted them to see how important it was to me. To show that I'm not just grades, I'm a well-rounded, professional.

This is just my advice no matter where you apply. I think we just don't give enough credit to people who appreciate the small details that may be on a committee deciding your admission decision. I mean don't get me wrong, do well in prerequisites, just don't compare yourself to what you think other people have. I didn't do that great on GRE.

But I'd rather not ask them why they chose me, I'm just glad they did... ;)

Sorry for the long spill...

Good luck to you!
