University of San Francisco Summer 2014 MSN CNL for non-nurses

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello everyone,

This thread is for the University of San Francisco Masters in Clinical Nurse Leader Program for non-nurses (Summer 2014 cohort) I didn't see one so I decided to make one. Anyone else applying?

To those who didn't get in (yet), you've gone so far and this whole process is tiring, but maybe see this as an opportunity to step through another door that will open. You only have a bit more to go...it will happen, and you will become an RN if you want it. If you are set on this program: make certain your personal statement is PERSONAL: Why a nurse? What's relevant in your history, both personally and academically? What background in school or at work or volunteering translates to why you want to dedicate your life (and $ to USF's program) to nursing? What will you bring to the table? ...not just "I want to help people." They also want you to talk up the CNL role a bit (review the CNL White Paper) bc that shows you've done your homework why you want USF over any other entry-level MSN program.

For those who got in: Congrats, I'd recommend getting started on your "Health Requirements" checklist ASAP. School of Nursing and Health Professions Health Requirements - University of San Francisco (USF) and scroll to Graduate Nursing Students section.

Oh, and all the financial aid stuff was really easy to do at the One Stop Office on Lone Mountain....they know you are pressed for time and will not drop you for not paying tuition already. They are very helpful...as is everyone in administration and the SON.

Get those "official transcripts" in as well bc your record will have a hold on it when you try to register for your clinical rotations for semester 2 (and those are first come first serve until each location fills up)--don't sweat over semester 2 yet, just make sure you get those official transcripts in.

Mainly: Focus on Health Requirements check list/ Worksheet thingy...and One Stop if you need financial aid.

PM me if you have any quick questions....end of semester is busy so I might not get back right away.

Enjoy your last few weeks before your first semester begins.

Hi All - I received the call that I was admitted to Cohort 18 last Thursday, but I will be giving up my spot as I have already committed to an MSN program elsewhere. For those on the waitlist, I hope this opens up a spot for you - best of luck!

Thanks for the update! Hopefully those of us on the waitlist still have a chance. :)

Do you know how many clinical hours in this program?

Also, does USF give its nursing students any scholarship? Or is it all student loans?

One last question, I promise! why do the last two semesters, semesters 5 and 6 have only 8 units and 7 units while the others have 12-14 units? Are we doing more clinical hours?

Not sure if USF offers scholarships, but I do know there are outside sources of scholarships you can apply for.

There are over 1000 hours.

The last 2 semesters are different bc: semester 5 is lighter to help you start prepping for the the NCLEX which you have to have pass before beginning semester 6. Semester 6 is also fewer credits bc you are in a hospital doing your final project for most of the semester.

I sent you a PM with more info :)

Hi @emzie25! Do you think I can ask you a few questions regarding what you changed in your apps during the second time you applied? I am on the wait list and I probably won't get in this time. :( The next application deadline is around September I think. Not sure what I can change in my application in such a short amount of time. Do I need new letters of rec and do you know if they would look at the old letters again since it's on file?

Thank you!

Hi everyone, its that time when the results comes out for all of us. For those who have been accepted, congratulation and strive on! To those who have been rejected - no worries and keep your head up high (if your heart is set to go into the field of medicine - I am sure you will find a way there...never give up, if you got let down once, twice maybe more that should not discourage you. It in fact should motivate you to move forward to show people who rejected you that your going to get there sooner or later. This is your future, your career, your life...You want it. Don't wait for it, GO TAKE IT. There is always room for improvement whether you feel you have done everything in your power - All I am saying is, if your still reading blogs, doing research on schools/programs or even in the process of studying your GRE/MCAT, you still have a chance! As long as you don't give up on yourself, your still a winner). Last but not least to those who are waitlisted...The letter states that we will find out this week but unfortunately we won't find out until next week  I was talking to Ingrid and she told me that decisions are being made; GOOD NEWS for all....Phone calls are still being made after this week. They are currently sorting through all the students who have been accepted to see how many seats are available for additional students. **Crossing fingers and praying**:saint: Good luck everyone and keep your head up high

@missjules

Thank you for the inspirational words! :) Did you speak with Ingrid via phone or email? I had email her a few days ago but haven't received a response.

@Phillycakes I myself try to stay strong, so writing it down helps me as a reminder too.

I spoke to Ingrid via phone. As for her email, she responds to it accordingly. It takes her approx. 4 days to get back to you, so you should hear back from her soon. If there is anything I can shine some light on, feel free to ask away.

Thank you @missjules :)
