UH MEPN 2012

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Is anyone looking at University of Hawaii's MEPN program for Fall 2012? I'm originally from Honolulu and would LOVE to go back and do this program. Especially since I would pay in-state tuition! :)

I've looked over the lengthy forum about the program from 2009. Is there anyone who went to UH's program that started this Fall? I would be quite interested to hear your stats (GPA, etc.) and to find out how many people applied and how many were accepted/matriculated this year. I will also be taking A&P 2 and Microbiology in the Spring and I am curious if that will hurt me since I am not done with all the prereqs. They say you just have to finish them by July, but I am wondering if that is really true.

Any info previous MEPN people can give me would be great. Thanks!

Wow, how strange! Good to know though!

Wow, thanks for taking one for the team MissHolland!! I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but hopefully they will contact us all soon. Did they say how or when we will hear about acceptance?

I asked so I will let you know when I hear back today!

I don't know if reading this thread is helping me or making me more nervous? What do you mean doing away with the interviews? I am going to the website to see if they have updated it..wouldn't it be nice if they gave a heads up on changes, especially since they are so detailed online about how this whole process is to play out?

I figured those that would be offered an interview would get asked from now until mid to late Feb, then maybe 2nd pick interviews in March and then all decisions by April 1. Now, I don't know what to think. Maybe they have more applicants this year and won't be interviewing, or maybe they have less applicants. This stuff makes me go a little bit out of my mind.

I hate the wait. I keep wondering, have they read my essay yet? What pile is my stuff in? When am I going to get a call? Why haven't they called yet? This business that I have NO control over is occupying way too much of my time. I cannot help it.

So with you, APRN! It's killing me!! =0)

No way! No interviews?! They should get back to us sooner then! :D

Hi everyone,

I have read through this thread and have applied as well. I'm a little heartbroken that they have done away with the interviews because that is where I really thought I would shine. I feel that I am much better represented in person than on paper and was really hoping that if I made it to the interview, that I would have a fighting chance. It would be a dream come true to get into this progam. Of course, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that I get in and am rooting for you as well. Maybe we'll be classmates come August :)

Aloha,I'm a current MEPN student at UH in my second semester and I thought I'd spread some hope and tips.Hope: way less people applied this year - only about 200 so your chances of getting in are very good. Advice: don't call and bug the school cause honestly they are super busy and usually they aren't even sure whats going onWith this program you have to be very flexible. They will tell you A on Tuesday and be doing B on Wednesday with no warning. If you can't roll with the punches this is not the program for you. I'm happy to answer any questions publicly if you have them, Good luck everyone!

Yay! Thanks for jumping in here, SusieNinja!

I am happy to hear that there are fewer applicants! I am all for "rolling with the punches" but I do appreciate organization and structure. Do you feel that you get that out of the program? (I am not worried about the admissions process.. I get that.)

I chose this program for many reasons that are very important to me and that set it apart from the others in my book (i.e. emphasis on the fundamental values of PH, cultural diversity, etc). However, I do wonder how the heck I will pay for it! My calculations, as a non-resident, come out to about $156,000 for the program. $70,000 for the first year and 62 credits at $1,382 for subsequent years. This doesn't include COL, books, etc. How do you make this work? I'm not in yet, and I don't want to jump the gun, but I wonder if it isn't a more economically savvy option to get residency first.

Also, with less applicants and no interviews do you think that we may hear back before March? I know you aren't in a position to tell but speculation is OK, too, lol!

Thank you!

Thanks Susie Ninja for staying up with this thread and for bringing us some info!

I really appreciate any news, updates and info. I got the impression that flexibility is key in this program and really, for many things in Hawaii.

Are you happy with the MEPN program? Are you in your 1st year of specialty or your second? Is it harder or easier than your thought? Have you returned to work after your first year? Do you think getting work as an RN after graduation is difficult?

Thanks again for supporting us!

Aloha.

Wow, so no interviews? Unless the specialty director wants one? Quel bizarre :) but whatever....

I am also applying for this upcoming fall admission to MEPN (FNP).

Do you all have any idea when they might let us know whether we will be accepted?

On the website all it says is "March." I guess that's a decent answer and I'm just impatient to know :).

Much aloha!

They told me if the program director wants to contact us for a specialty interview that they will do so in February and decisions are planned to be made and mailed in March. Drives me crazy because earlier threads/years generally heard earlier!
