University of Hawaii Manoa 2013 MEPN Program
Hey Guys. Just got the email on Friday about orientation dates, etc. Went to search on FB for 2013 UH MEPN, nothing came up. I don't have PM privliges yet. GUESS WHAT? There is a UH Manoa MEPN FB page- search UH Manoa MEPN and message an administrator. This is where many current students are. There are items for sale from students who are done with their stuff and basically a way to be more connected to those in the program now. Cool, huh?

I applied to the dual FNP/APHN. Yes, positive thoughts to all those who are still waiting.

Hello! I too have been following the thread. I got my email acceptance today also! I'm super excited. The email had an attachment with the forms that will be sent in paper form and they expect a response either way by 2/20/13. Congrats to all who have heard. Wishing everyone else an end to the waiting, which is torturous. Looking forward to meeting and working with all of you.

It's a no for me, for now. :thankya: Good things come out of all things, even if we don't know what those good things are yet. Best to everyone. :heartbeat

Such a great attitude @DC275. I'm trying to keep it together. I haven't heard anything yet. I will let y'all know when I do. What track did you select? Congrats on your acceptance. I wish you and everyone else on here the best of luck! Chomping at the bit over here....

I hear you @MissHolland. This process is not easy. Putting yourself out there is difficult. We all deserve to be proud that we are going after something that is important to us. Hopefully we will hear in the next few days, but I have been preparing myself that we might not hear until April 1 since the website said we will hear "by end of March". Checking this site at least once a day now.....will post if and when I hear something.

Thank you so much everyone who wrote about their experiences. I also heard no interviews this year from some MEPN students I met at work while they were doing clinical rotations. I spoke to one who said she was happy with the program overall, but was confused as to why there are no interviews this year. I guess the current students feel that it is hard to get a full picture of someone on paper alone. Perhaps, the director has seen that most of those accepted were the ones they all liked the most on paper anyway. This would make sense for why they stopped doing interviews. My co-worker, who is super supportive of me getting into this program asked some other MEPN students that she saw on the floor a bunch more. She was told that there were WAY more applicants this year---like 400??? which is different from other postings...so I am not sure if these numbers were just grossly inflated, I am hoping so. He also said, no interviews, and that the program told them all this as a group, I guess to hear the comments from the students, who were mostly in disagreement with no interviews. Also, that the essays are a bit more formal and so it can sometimes be difficult to get points across regarding warmth and compassion with an essay, so they are probably relying more heavily on the reference letters. This of course, are all just things I have heard and none have been confirmed. I am trying my best not to call the school and not to bother them. It is very difficult to wait, especially with no response after all this time. But, we can all rest assured that we are all in this same waiting game and to be prepared not to hear until the end of March, as it states on the website. Trying to stay busy and keeping my head away from figuring out plan B!?!

I haven't heard anything yet either. I am constantly thinking about this, and I agree with @dolcegabby there is nothing much we can do but wait. I applied to the FNP/APHN dual track. I am curious to know which specialties usually do interviews. It is hard to read from past years responses, since it seems that many/all got interviews and maybe this year they are changing it up a bit. Putting the call out there to all who get asked for interviews to please post your specialty track, when you were called for an interview and if you wish to share afterwards what happened in the interview that will be very helpful. I will do the same if/when anyone calls me! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks again SusieNinja for your helpful answers. Thanks also to all of you out there that have called, found out and posted the responses to all of us about the interviews and when we should expect to hear decisions. I love this thread. It is especially helpful to know that if we do not get an interview, this does not automatically mean we will not get in. I have been feeling like if I don't get an interview by beginning of March, my chances for acceptance are out the window. This sounds like we just all have to hold our breaths till the end of March....this seems like an impossibly LOOOOOOOOOONG time! Cheers and good luck to us all!

Thanks Susie Ninja for staying up with this thread and for bringing us some info! I really appreciate any news, updates and info. I got the impression that flexibility is key in this program and really, for many things in Hawaii. Are you happy with the MEPN program? Are you in your 1st year of specialty or your second? Is it harder or easier than your thought? Have you returned to work after your first year? Do you think getting work as an RN after graduation is difficult? Thanks again for supporting us! Aloha.

I don't know if reading this thread is helping me or making me more nervous? What do you mean doing away with the interviews? I am going to the website to see if they have updated it..wouldn't it be nice if they gave a heads up on changes, especially since they are so detailed online about how this whole process is to play out? I figured those that would be offered an interview would get asked from now until mid to late Feb, then maybe 2nd pick interviews in March and then all decisions by April 1. Now, I don't know what to think. Maybe they have more applicants this year and won't be interviewing, or maybe they have less applicants. This stuff makes me go a little bit out of my mind. I hate the wait. I keep wondering, have they read my essay yet? What pile is my stuff in? When am I going to get a call? Why haven't they called yet? This business that I have NO control over is occupying way too much of my time. I cannot help it.

Glad to hear back from you. I meant what I said about the journey...but I am anxious to get this thing moving and find out too! My email just said the top part that you quoted and the info about the admission committee contacting us is listed on the website, even if it was not in my email. It is too easy to read into each detail and get caught up, which can make me more nervous. Keeping fingers crossed over here. Hope people post when and if they were called for an interview and how things went. From looking at previous posts this seemed helpful to know more about what was going on. I will try to check back on this thread at least once a week. How about you MissHolland?

I am stoked that the January 2nd application has passed and that I have indeed completed my application. I only got an email stating that my application was complete, not that I would be contacted in the event that I was selected for an interview. Hmmmm.... this is differnt than what MissHolland posted. I have been following the MEPN threads for 2 years as I was preparing to apply. I look toward the future and look forward to supporting and being supported on this thread as we make our way through this journey. Either way, accepted or not we are on a journey that will lead us down a new path and just this, is exciting.
