Summer Entry 2013 Accelerated BSN/MSN Johns Hopkins

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone,

How many of you have applied for the 2013 Accelerated BSN/MSN program at JHU SON? I applied early decision and completed my phone interview on the 26th. They said they will start making decisions calls around the December 15th which is a Saturday so I'm sure we won't hear anything until the 17th or later.

Is anyone else as anxious as I am to hear back from them? I even made a vision board on my fridge that reads: I WILL GET ACCEPTED INTO THE JOHNS HOPKINS BSN/MSN PROGRAM STARTING SUMMER 2013. Positive thoughts work, right? :saint:

FYI: I also applied to Columbia, Ohio State, and UCLA.

caught this a bit late as well. im starting in may and excited about it. Im basically searching for ways to pay for school and going over anatomy and physiology again on my own for the hell of it. For housing, I was gonna scope out areas online then worry about finding a place in march, now is probably too early, right?

cnp, thanks for the insight. What is the fall semester schedule like? And what is your most difficult class?

Well we were the first 17 month cohort (our program replaced the old 2 traditional program) so we are sort of the test group so I am sure there will be changes for the next incoming Fall class but we take the exact same classes as the Summer Accels just things are spread out more because the semester is 14 weeks vs. 10 weeks. They split the cohort down the middle into two sections 101 and 201....no real rhyme or reason to how they split it. I had classes Mon-Thur with Tues being the only day I had class from 9-5pm. The main chunk of your time as a first semester student is spent in lab for Health Assessment (4hrs), Principles and Applications (4 hrs) and Patient Centered Care (4hrs). The lectures for my class ranged from 1-2 hours depending on the class. I had my clinical day on Friday and was placed at Johns Hopkins Hospital however some of my friends were as far as out as Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. Be forewarned that for your first semester you are randomly placed to a unit, however all the sites are excellent. For my clinical day my instructor was fairly strict, we had to be on our unit no later than 6:30am and we wrapped the day at about 2:00pm. Also if you wan tto "map out" your schedule sot to speak you can look at last years schedule on the Hopkins website. Thats what I did to get a better idea...just choose summer 2012 and you should get a pdf of the course listings.

As for which class was hardest it is a toss-up. I came from a science background so patho was not as difficult for me. I wouldn't say the material in any of the classes is essential "hard" it is just a different way of thinking and test taking. The difficult part for me was more the skills we learned in lab each week and the whole host of new terminology that was thrown at us. I hope this helps, I am more than happy to answer any questions about classes, life as a student etc. I was in your shoes last year....if any one here wants my email address I am more than happy to provide it!!! (I work in the admissions office as a student worker so I LOVE chatting with prospective and accepted students)

Hey everybody!

I am not sure if there is already a facebook group. This forum at times is a bit hard for me to follow and not being able to PM anyone is frustrating. I thought we could share more advice especially about housing, what to review, etc. It's an open group called "Johns Hopkins School of Nursing May 2013 Cohort" (Long, I know) and I can't find it when I search it but the link should work below. I made a page too - titled the same, which is more visible on facebook but less conducive to conversation. I hope to meet some people there!

Here's the link for the group:

Let me know if people have trouble finding it.

Thank you so much, cnp! I really appreciate it. The website with the classes listed is really interesting and a good resource for me. I will definitely continue to pick your brain - I actually applied for fall, and am still waiting to hear! So we shall see :)

Congrats again Salinn! ;)

Thank you kdiem! ;)

Congratulatelions, salinn!!! Did you get notified via mail/email or phone call? Are you a regular decision ABSN/MSN summer start applicant?

I was notified via email. They said that I would be receiving an official letter in the mail sometime within the next week. I am a early decision summer start ABSN/MSN. I received notification that I was accepted into the BSN in December but that Midwifery department process their applicants differently and the decisions would be released later.
