Nurse's Stations?

Our director is trying to push for no nurse's station with the new remodel. He states that many facilities are phasing out nurse's stations. Thoughts? Is this truly the case around the country?

We have a brand new building -- OK, we had a brand new building five years ago -- and it has THREE nurses stations and 12 substations.

In our older tower they still have the traditional nurses station half-circles where there are enough chairs and computers for all of the nurses for the floor. In our updated tower, they have replaced nurses stations with "touchdowns" which are little open charting stations (not half circle or rounded) sporadically throughout the winged hallway with only 2-3 computers at each touchdown.

Each pod in my unit has a "nurses' station," but no nurses actually sit a it. We sit at individual desks scattered between the rooms. The "nurses' station" has a spot for the tech, miscellaneous papers, lab stuff, the central monitor, a physician/NP station, and an extra computer that the RTs usually claim.
