    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has recently done this program or thinking about attending. It is a 15 month program at the College of Mount St Joseph in Cincinnati. I applied and was set to go awhile back, but did not go for many reasons. Here again I am interested. If anyone else is thinking about MSJ or at MSJ, let's talk.

    Hello Sunnyjohn!

I started this program this May! What do you need to know?

    Hello Kiarag,

I have applied for May/August of 2013. All of my materials were submitted on June 21 and I have yet to hear back about an interview. Do you know about how long I should expect to wait to get an interview? Do you have any suggestions about what to expect or how to prepare for the interview?

    Thank you so much!

    Hey guys!

I just got accepted into the May 2013 cohort! So excited. After the application is marked "completed", they send it to the director to contact you. That should take between 1-2 weeks. They are really efficient. After they interview you (mine was over the phone) you should hear back within a week.

Don't worry about the questions: just make sure you know why you want to do nursing and why this program.

Also, for those that are currently in the program: How does financial aid work? I'm assuming that we won't know anything until next spring. (after we submit this year's FAFSA) Is it safe to assume 40k in loans? Also, I would be moving from FL, so can anyone give me an idea of how much rent is around MSJ area? I would really like to start planning/saving/organizing for the transition. Any and all information is absolutely welcome!

    Thanks Again!

Hey all. I am in the program as well - I started in May. The interview is a piece of cake... just why nursing, why this school, etc. They try to keep it very low key and they absolutely do not want you to be uncomfortable. If you're coming to campus for it, I would recommend business casual - no suit is needed.

The financial aid works like any other financial aid. Submit your FAFSA and call the school and make sure it is for the correct year. It's a little funky since you're starting in the summer. So far I've had no issues with my aid and I've just had my refund checks applied to the next semester. PS: LOOK AT THE SCHOLARSHIPS and APPLY - even if you don't think it pertains to you. I was able to get a $10,000 scholarship through the school that is helping SO MUCH!

Rent is not too bad - esp. if you stay in Delhi, which is ideal, because that will have you close to the school and pretty close to all of your clinical rotations. I would say $500 or so for a one bedroom? Maybe even less?

Get all of your immunizations as soon as possible. We've had a lot of issues with this and some people are going to be excused from the program because of it - and it's the second semester! The Hep B series takes a while so if you don't have it, you'll want to go ahead and start it ASAP. I didn't get accepted until December of 2011 so I was rushing to get everything complete. They don't budge on the immunizations - they are a must have. Also, do your CPR and all of that. That is the best way to start out on the right foot. Otherwise, once you get your preassignments (should come in Aprilish), get started on those because once you hit class, you're off and running. No time to play catch up in a program like this!

Good luck to you all! Let me know if you have any more questions.

I am an older adult and graduated in May 2012 with a BA from MSJ. This was my second trip to the Mount. I attended the 1st time about 20yrs ago and when it came time for me to return to school to further my career, I could think of no better college. Both my experiences at the Mount were wonderful. EVERYONE at the Mount goes above and beyond to see you succeed. The professors are the best! You will come away from the Mount with a very good education. A nursing degree from the Mount really means something to employers in this area. When you leave MSJ with a nursing degree, you will really know your stuff!

Having said all this, I will tell you that the Magellan Program is very intense. The instructors are tough and so is the curriculum. This is an accelerated program. The instructors are available to help and there is a great support staff in place but it is a tough program.

I have been an LPN for 20yrs and returned to the Mount with the intention of completing my BA specifically to then enter the Magellan Program. I look forward to entering the program in August 2013. I need to work and stick some money away because I have been told it is very difficult to work and do the program.

As far as the area, its city suburbia, close to everything but not as hectic and fast paced as mid or inner city. There is alot of flora and fauna. The college is relatively small which lends itself to a close-knit college community. It has also been a very safe college community. The Mount has its own police force and they take the safety of the students and faculty very seriously.

You may also be interested in the Mount daycare. Its very good. My children loved going there and they thought it was cool to go to college with mom!

    Good Luck and Best Wishes!
