UPenn accelerated BSN 2011...anyone?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Just wanted to know how many people here are planning to apply for the accelerated program at UPenn in 2011? (one starts in the summer)

I'm just excited to get to talk to them and explain why I want to be a CRNA and why I'd be a good fit for their program.

Another thing, apparently we can choose to do either 1 12hr clinical per week or 2 6hr clinicals per week. Anyone have any insight in which to pick? I'm leaning towards 12hr once a week because I feel like it's more realistic, but I'm not sure if I'll still be in a learning mindset about 12 hours. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but still, it's kind of fun to think about the future (when we're all at U Penn together!).

Anyone else who only applied to the accelerated BSN portion?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but I just booked my ticket to come to Philly for the BSN/MSN interviews. So nervous already. This may be a really silly question, don't judge me, but is anyone bringing family with you to the interview day at Penn, obviously not to the interview itself but for the rest of the day? My mom is a retired nurse and has a strong, ridiculous desire to come with me to see the campus...any thoughts? Appropriate? Not appropriate? OR if any previous or current students see this, were there parents at your interview day? I've been to a few other orientation type things at different schools and it seemed like a lot of parents/husbands/wives were there... just wondering. How's everyone feeling? Confident? Hope so! Thanks guys.

aww let your Mom go with you! But don't let her in the interview area...does she hav e your support? I know I love my mom and she is a former nurse, but I don't want to see her on the day of the interview, before the interview because she is a hard person to please and is very critical.

Yea...that's a good point. Maybe I'll leave her at home.

so I finally just called Filomena. Penn interviews everyone that applies to BSN/MSN for most of the specialities. I applied to the FH program so I just asked specifcally about that one...and yes they interview every single applicant.

I'm really surprised they put the time into each applicant like this, it seems unusual for a school to do this. Filomena said that next year they may not be doing this btw.

just thought i'd share the info! good luck everyone.

cool, thanks for the info arcr!

Has anyone had their interview yet? How did it go? Any suggestions on what to expect?

HELLO EVERYONE! I am so glad I found this forum! I also applied to the BSN/MSN program w/ a specialty in Acute Care. I just got back from my interview on Friday and I thought it went well. The interview was not as nerve-wrecking as I thought. Filomena and the staffs were so down to earth! My interview was one-on-one and it was only 30 minutes long (it went by real fast!). However, there were other applicants that had a group interview (I think it was adult health) - probably because that specialty had a lot of applicants. Important information they told me was there are 580 applicants this year and they will accept 90-100 and matriculate about 60-80. Decisions will be send out around the first week of February. If you did not turn in some supplemental forms yet, like the mid-term grade report, they said not to worry about it and turn it in before the end of the year. They also say not to worry about your GRE scores if it isn't good. Anyways, I think the campus is absolutely gorgeous and very accessible! The Penn Nursing community seems extremely supportive and their clinical sites are top-notched! I was indecisive before I visited Penn but now this institution is in my top two! Anyone else did an interview? How did that went? -L

Hi! I just found this form as well! My interview is this Friday at Penn. I can't decide if I'm nervous or excited, maybe both.

Nondelicacy: any tips or advice for the interview? Any specific questions you remember? That's comforting to hear about the GRE scores, definitely didn't do as well as I had hoped! What other school is in your top 2 besides Penn?? Just curious.

B1154, Speak with you heart! I know that sounds really cliche but that's what I did and I believe it helped me. Mock interviews also help as well! Just go in there with a tunnel vision. I'm sure you did everything you could to prepare for this interview and just give it your best! Be enthusiastic and ask questions that will knock them off their socks! My interviewer asked me questions liked "tell me about yourself", "why did you choose acute care", "tell me about your leadership experience", "how would your friends describe you", "have you ever shadowed a nurse practitioner", "what do you plan to do in nursing." My top two choices are Penn and Yale. But honestly, I'll go wherever they'll take me! Good luck =D
