UPenn accelerated BSN 2011...anyone?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Just wanted to know how many people here are planning to apply for the accelerated program at UPenn in 2011? (one starts in the summer)

if you click on the link to the accelerated program within the acceptance page it says that master decisions will be sent out within a week

Hey CP1919:

In reading your stats, I have a couple questions for you - about the post bac program - wondering if we could email?

Just curious- did anyone not go to Penn for an interview (did a phone interview) and get accepted?

Has anyone who did not get in going to wait and reapply next year?

I got my masters letter yesterday

Hey iridium54,

I was considering that option. I only applied to 3 schools so if it's a no for all 3, I'm back to the drawing board. You could always go get an RN first and apply to the masters program later on...

Well I have been admitted to at least one school so far, and waiting to hear from two more. It's just that I really wanted Penn for a variety of reasons. I didn't even apply to the MSN portion b/c I am not 100% sure what I want to specialize in. I am wait-listed so I guess before I make any drastic decisions I will continue waiting . . . . However I have considered going to the least-expensive accelerated BSN program and then put the money out for Penn later (though their wonderful aid packages for undergrad is one huge attraction to them to me to begin with!).

Ah, we all want Penn for a variety of reasons, namely they program seems to rock and financial aid floweth freely. My fingers are crossed for you to get in off the waitlist, but if not- I would take the acceptance you got elsewhere and run with it. Just saying :)

Haha, you're right, jqfish. I could be done with the whole thing by next May if I don't get Penn and run with what I've been given. Thanks for the well-wishes, and here's hoping you are accepted into your two other schools!

Hiiii everyone, I got accepted into the accelerated program for summer 2011!! I also got accepted into the nurse anesthetist program which I still am having a hard time believing! The only problem is that I'm already 2 weeks into a program at UMD in Baltimore and have no idea if I should withdrawl and accept at penn....any thoughts???

Specializes in Psych.

Accepted! :)

I applied for the BSN only (originally planned on applying for the BSN/MSN this year, but was not able to take the GRE before the due date). I was wait-listed last year, but applied again this year... with success!

Here are my stats:

BFA from Howard University - 2006

3.45 Undergrad GPA

4.0 Pre-Requisite GPA

RAINN Online Hotline Volunteer

Planned Parenthood Clinic / Advocacy Volunteer

Nurse shadowing experience

Lifeguard, CPR & First Aid Certifications (7 years) - including swim instruction

3 Recommendations

During the time period between last year and this year, I added on the RAINN volunteering, more pre-requisites (in hopes for making the June start date instead of the fall), the shadowing, and a third recommendation from a professor. My essay this time around just updated them on what I have been doing since I last applied.

I'm originally from Philly (born and raised). So last May, while I was visiting my parents, I was able to set up a meeting with Filomena regarding my application. I think meeting with her was a HUGE help bc/ she gave me feedback on my application and what I should consider adding to it. She was great, and gave me a lot of information about the program (including the MSN and PhD programs). I also think it was a good chance to put a face to a name. I left even more determined to get in the second time around! lol

Looking at some of the other stats, mine seems to pale in comparison to others' experience. But I do think that everyone has something to offer and that they are open to a variety of backgrounds.

Good luck to those that will be applying again...it can happen!
