Hello everyone, I am new allnurses.com. I am glad to see that there is a site where I can communicate with nurses from all over. I have a question. I recently applied to St joseph Hospital school of nursing located at 8th girard ave in philadelphia, PA. It is an accelerated one year RN program. I am somewhat concerned because I don't know much about the school. They don't even have a website. I wm currently working on prequisites to start the program in november. It is fairly new and just opened up about three years ago. I would love to get the input of someone that knows about the program or has graduated from it...thanks a lot.

hi JPK7908 ---- i am thinking of applying to st joesph for next year, did you get any information on acceptance yet????

i got accepted for jan 2011 , then they pushed it back to march 2011 and then ONE WEEK before school they cancelled the class and said they MIGHT start in september!!!! i dont even know what to think and im so scared tio find out but i really want to get my nursing career started but worried this school may not help, can we continue for our BSN after???n is any one in there recent class? if so how is it ? PLEASE ANY HELP WILL DO

Ohhhhh Boyy

Be AWARE!

This school is a complete joke. I went to SJHSON, I left and was going to go back into the program. But as you people may know, there is a 85 percent chance that the school with be closing after December (as soon as this class graduates) the school is NOT accredited, they only have 2 to 3 teachers. The Dean doesnt do much to help when theres a problem. By the end of the 1st semester 11 girls had failed out. The one professor, I feel is the only reason the school is still going. She is all about helping, but the other teachers, not atall. It is crazy how unorganized the program is, they dont take any finacial aide (25,000 dollars is the cost of the program which you pay for out of pocket) We recieved a list of books needed (900 hundred dollars worth) purchased all of them before school began, half way through they changed the books. The school doesnt like to take students in that are working. They say the school is "full-time" well its not. Some days your in at 8 and on your way home by 11. In one of the classes, your taught and taught and when you get the test, not one thing is on the test. Their pass rates on tests are below average. Now let me tell you why I choose St. Josephs. Its a 14month program (rn) so its a fast track program. It was a smaller school, so I felt there would be more one on one time. The website, that was up on the internet, now removed, isnt that funny, explained how monday through thursday was lecture/clinical and fridays were study review, NOPE! Everyday was lecture and clinical. Ohhh and the clinical sites are uhhh not to great I could say. No body knew what was going on or where we were going to be.

Well I dont want to keep bashing the school, its making me look ugly, I would really hope people would consider this statement and look else where. And since the school is most likely going to close you guys dont have to worry!!...Good luck to all of you and hopefully you all will find a better place to make your education worth while

Have you found another school that will accept you? Best of luck, and sorry your experience has been miserable thus far. :(

Lets hope so, since SJHSON is NOT acccredited, a lot of schools wont look at you as a transfer student. So you pretty much have to start from square one. I did meet some awesome friends that ill always have in my life but that is prob. the only highlight to that school. Thank you, it sure was a crazy experinence!!!!

AMP810- that is one of my biggest worries is that the school will b closing, but unfourtunely i dont have much choices since they cancelled school ONE WEEK before we were supposed to start and am having rouble finding schools still taking apps for this fall, im so nervous because i feel st. joe mayb my only choice, were alot of students failin out when u attened? anymore info on the staff and school would b so helpful before i make this horrible decision, thank you!!

I applied there and was accepted in 2008 to begin in January of 2009. I could not get financial aid because they were no longer being funded so I could not attend the program. I applied at Jefferson University in January and was accepted three weeks later; I graduate in a month:w00t:. Please whatever you do, don't attend a program because you feel that you dont have any other choices. Either wait to apply to a different RN program of apply to an LPN program and then do an accelerated program because NO HOSPITALS WANT GRADUATES FROM A NON ACCREDITED PROGRAM.

thank you so much for the insight! im new to philly, is jeferon in phildadelphia ? is it a ASN program?

Your welcome, Yes Jefferson is in center city Philadelphia. It's a great schooland the teachers are there for you and WANT everyone to pass. All you have to do is the work and they will help you anyway they can.

please dont think sjhson is your only choice! my first semester 11 girls failed out by my second semester 4 girls failed out. there is only 7 or 8 girls left in the program. that is not normal. you should really look into other options, dont feel discouraged! i know actually how your feeling. it took me 3 1/2 years to complete all of my pre-req's and then meeting and having an interview with sjhson i felt like wow, i can become a nurse in 14months. then i got into their program and alot of it was complete self taught, i already work as a medical assistant, so that helped me with the studying, it was just way too much. it just is so fast track that it is unorganized. the students and the staff are always on different pages... meaning, students think one thing is going on and the teachers think something else. i just really think that you should set up one on ones with other schools, explain your situation. you never know, you might charm them!! hahaha, well i really wish you luck, its alot of money, its really fast tracked and i feel that you could benefit from another school! have you thought about whats gonna happen if they close?

and ps- their not accredited. have you noticed every job posting for rn's are from an accredited nursing school? just think you should check into a little more! and dont beat yourself up, you'll find something!!!

has anyone heard anything recently about the school? any current students or recent previous students? whats the chances in successfully graduating? any help will do thanks
