:typingHello all. I will be starting at UPMC Northwest on 9/15 as a Med/Surg nurse. I was wondering if all of the UPMC facilities follow a dress-code such as one color for each specific unit or whether you can wear what scrubs you want.

I'm not sure if I should go ahead and order them or wait.

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The UPMC hospitals down in the city where all white scrubs in med-surg. Don't know if Northwest is the same or not.

Nope - nursing staff at UPMC Presby wear whatever color scrubs they want. Happily, I get to wear the navy OR scrubs which are provided so I don't have to make any decisions!

Interesting. When I interviewed at Shadyside a few years ago, it was whites for all units except OR, L&D (hospital-provided scrubs, of course), and critical care units including ER were wearing ceil blue. I was given a copy of the multi-page policy.

OP - look through all of your materials - it's probably in there somewhere. Otherwise, a simple call to the manager of your new unit will take care of it.

I quit working at Shadyside back in Feb, was there last in June for class, and all floor nurses were supposed to be wearing white. ICU/OR/ER nurses wore the ceil blue. I assumed the rest of UPMC, or at least Presby, Shadyside's mother ship, had the same policy, but perhaps it just isn't followed to the "t" as much over there. FYI: you can wear prints as long as they have a white or ceil blue background (depending on your department).
