Relocating to Philadelphia Area, Any Suggestions?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hello,

I am a nurse with 1 year experience working on a step-down ICU. I am moving up north in July/August to either the Philadelphia, PA or Wilmington, DE area. I am very unfamiliar with these areas and doing research is quite overwhelming. I am interested in getting a job in the ICU area, as a nurse with only a year under my belt I know it will be quite challenging. Surgical and Trauma are the areas I am most interested in. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on good hospitals for that in those areas or any advice on what hiring is like in those job specialties there. Any insight would be most appreciated!!

Thanks you!

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

Have you googled or looked on LinkedIn or glassdoor for the area hospitals, then looked at open positions?

Right now, and for a great amount of time, Philly is super saturated with new and seasoned nurses; try to network using LinkedIn, put your résumé in their websites and go from there.

Best wishes.

I've heard its difficult to find work there with so many nurses already there. Thanks for the advice though- I've never heard of glassdoor, I'll have to give it a try!

For Philly, I don't think you'll have as hard of a time as you would if you were a new grad but it may still be hard. Here are some to look into if I were you: University of Penn health system, Thomas Jefferson, Main Line Health. Christiana in Delaware is also a great hospital.

Theres also temple, hahnemann, aria, and einstein in philly. Theres cooper, virtua, inspira in south jersey, and christiana and ai dupont as mentioned in delaware. Not sure what you are planning on doing with your license and what states you want to get it in. Delaware is a compact state. I live just north of wilmington and have commuted into philly for work as well as into south jersey and it was very manageable.
