U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi,

I will be attending University's ACE program in the Fall of 2009. I just wanted to see if anyone else on here is in that class...and the kind of information they have on financial aid for this program and how they are preparing for the fall.

Thanks!

Andrea

Just_cause, if you don't mind me asking, how did you go about deferring your application from spring to fall? Was it a difficult process and did you need a good reason? I'm also considering deferring from spring to fall, but for 2010.

Thanks in advance! =)

Clam,

I deferred my acceptance from Spring 09 to Fall 09. I filled out my Intent to Enroll form & sent in my matriculation fee ($500). I noted on the form that I wished to defer my acceptance until Fall 09. Then, I made a copy of that form & my check and emailed it to Tina Hueghes. She contacted me back the same day, saying that my place was confirmed for the fall. You dont need to explain anything.

You should definitely play a sport, it keeps you sane while in a demanding program! I definitely think people wit backgrounds in psychology and sociology struggle so much more, because science classes are so much more challenging in a way that people from that major aren't used to. But if you think about it, they have to have the same pre req"s as you, so that shouldnt really be much of a reason. This program comes down to your mentality, have a positive one and you will do fine

My biggest problem was that I came from a college background based upon research and writing. However, I did have a full year of full-time pre-rec classes at a local community college which prepared me well for power point regurgitation classes.

Even though I have passed everything thus far (I'm going into my last quarter), I would have earned much higher grades had I just memorized powerpoints and not read any books. I love reading and get caught up in trying to understand stuff, but that is not what gets you good grades in the ACE program. Exams, for the most part, are straightforward and are based on recall not critical thinking as they claim. Anyway, I've learned my lesson and am ready for all A's in my last quarter of ACE.

Good luck!

Attn Fall 09 ACErs - check your email for important compliance information - info on background check, drug screen, fingerprinting, etc etc - and uniforms. Get busy - two months until to go!!

Hi,

I am starting the ACE program in September...has anyone received any information from on things like books/supplies? I know that when I went to the open house last year they mentioned that students would need blackberries and a laptop (I think?). Does anyone know anything about this? The most that I have gotten in the past couple months was information on CPR/First Aid.

Thanks!!

Andrea

We recently got an email with a whole bunch of info on compliance stuff (child abuse clearance, immunizations, uniforms, background check, a few forms that need to be filled out). PM me with your email if you didn't get this and I can forward it to you.

We haven't gotten book info, and the only supply stuff is what was included with the uniform requirements. We get a PDA during orientation- it's part of the tuition. I've read in older posts here that it's possible to get away with using school computers to do the synching you need to do with the PDA.

Thanks for the info Hiddencat... I did receive the information on fingerprints and all that stuff. Do you happen to know the link for the Facebook group? For some reason I'm having trouble findining it.

Thanks!

I wish we had a book list to work with- I've had to use my back to school money for a few unexpected expenses so I want time to get things as cheaply as possible.

Thank you so much!!!

Yeah, I hear ya, I wish I had a little more information on stuff like that before I go to orientation.

No problem :)

I'm totally the impatient type. I want to know EXACTLY everything there is to know about the program and no less lol.

But orientation is not that much further off.

Me too! I just want to make sure I have everything ready before we start. Are you from Philly?

Not originally, but I've been here for 3 years. You?
