Drexel ACE Program March 2009

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Just trying to communicate and hopefully get in touch with a few of you. This is a very intense program sure you all know and I'm looking for people who would like to form a study group or at least get to know one another before the start of school.

Is anyone planning on working?

Hope to hear from you!

I'm planning on not working. I think 21-23 credit semesters (quarters) will be hard enough without finding time to work. I live about an hour (by trains) from school in Bryn Mawr. Moving isn't really in the forecast.

I've never tried a study group, but I would be willing to try (if someone is willing to teach me what you do in a study group). A few people were talking in another Spring 2009 thread in here.

Right now, I'm just sorting through what information I've gotten from the various threads to see what I should do to prepare. I think I need First Aid certification (I only did the CPR/AED for 1st professional rescuer program, and that was 6 months ago). I have Wilderness First Aid certification, but I'm not sure that will apply =P

I got the criminal record stuff a while ago for another school's application, but I opened the letters, so I'll probably have to get those done again.

Other than worrying about the stuff I haven't even recieved official notification about, I'm trying to study. Picked up Saunder's NCLEX-RN 4th edition, and Calculate with Confidence (Morris).

Anyhow, welcome.

Hello,

I have been accepted to Spr. 2009 Class, I think a study group would be great. Today I had to take the children to the doctors and my nurse was a graduate of Drexel's ACE program. She was in the third class of the program, I guess 2002. She said it helped her a lot having a study group. It was great being about to talk so someone face to face that have been through this. In all she said stay focused, study hard, and keep your eye on your goal.:)

Great! Look forwrd to meeting you at orientation!

hey everyone..

i am also beginning the ace program this spring, march 09. im nervous as well as excited along with everyone else....was just wondering if anyone has any idea when orientation actually is? classes begin march 30th correct?? let me know if you have any info that i don't have, i feel clueless! haha thank you!

yeah, classes begin march 30th (from what it looks like). orientation will probably be in mid february (if it follows the about 2 weeks before classes schedule that other people have mentioned).

i'm excited. i think i'm going to buy 2 sets of uniforms and my lab coat on the 26th (i'll be downtown that day already). the woman i spoke to on the phone form central uniforms suggested beating the rush by ordering stuff by early february. i'm very happy our uniforms aren't white, btw. so many schools still require white uniforms. if you go to their website, they have a link just for the ace student uniforms.

i just need to get my ppd done, and i'm not sure what my timing for that will be. i may just do it with my dr visit. it's just a pain having to go in a few times for it (it's a double ppd so need to get 2 wheals done and checked within a few weeks or something).

my new main question (since i always seem to have them) is where to get the first aid certification? i have the cpr/aed for 1st professional rescuer program, and that was 6 months ago professional rescuer program. but, i don't think that qualifies for first aid (someone mentioned needing 2 cards). i'd like to get that started soon, so i can beat the rush.

so i have no clue about the uniforms....news to me ha can you update me? did you buy them online??

and then as far as CPR/First Aid....i mean i was certified in college and it says on my certification card that i am good through may of 2009...

have you gotten any info at all from the school? the only thing i really got was stuff about getting immunizations which i did already send in but need to get my PPD done again because i got that over a year ago. anyways...let me know. thank you!

Everyone on the forums says that Central Uniforms is where to get the stuff.

When I called her up, she said there was a 3rd (4th) pair of pants that we could wear that was in the store but not online yet. People have suggested getting 2 sets of uniforms, and one lab coat. I'm thinking I'd like 3 shirts. I want to go to the store and try stuff on to find what fits least awkwardly.

Yeah, we need to keep our CPR/First Aid cert as well as PPD up to date (annual) while in the program. So, you'll be okay since you have a few months to get the recertification done. My CPR is good until June, but no clue about First Aid.

k thanks a lot for your help. i seemed to be a little out of the loop : )

do you live in the area? or are you moving down to philly when the program starts?

Welcome!! I havent received any immunization info. Can you let me know whats needed? Like what type of fa/cpr class should we be taking since there are quite a few -and btw did u take yours through the red cross? What else? I'm guessing a phys/tb-is this just a regular tb or something else?

Please let me know

Thanks

there is an immunization sheet that is online....i received it in the new student packet along with a couple of other things about financial aide, housing and that kind of thing. i'm pretty sure you can print one of these online at www.drexel.edu/ch then that should tell you everything you need with your doctors signature.

as far as the cpr/first aid....i had no idea that we were suppose to be certified (i guess i should have assumed)...i luckily just graduated from college and took a cpr/first aid class and still have my certification. it runs out in may of 2009....i am certified through the american heart association. i'm sure there are probably certification at your local YMCA or maybe even online? hopefully this helps....

The first aid/CPR is with American Heart Association, it's Heartsaver First Aid and BLS for Healthcare Providers. The cards are good for two years, if that helps. I got mine through the information sent out to the students in the tri-state region, but it will cost. You will need both.

As for uniforms, get two. If you really don't want to do laundry and don't mind spending the money, then get three. I used only one set of uniform in the first quarter, and right now I need two for second (one requires business casual, but not everyone's clinical has the same requirements). If you really are not sure what you need uniform wise, go to Central Uniform, they have EVERYTHING you need and more. But I would be cautious with shirts, keep in mind you won't use it again after coming out of Drexel.

Hope that helps, and welcome to the madness.
