U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I amthinking about going to CCAC to become a CNA but i heard you can go to UPMC and get it for free?

can anyone give me information on how i would go about signing up with UPMC?

i am currently a prenursing student, i want to work as a cna while going to ccac if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

You should visit upmc.com and submit your resume there.

thanks, i got your pm too, very helpful, i applied to every CNA/NA job i could find on there haha!

anyone have any suggestions (maybe more recent) on this......i do not have any medical background...have a bachelors degree, but not in science or medical field. My plan is to go to nursing school, but would like to work PT as a PCT if possible, in the meantime (and during school if possible)....any suggestions on securing the job....

I imagine there are several nursing students out there looking for PCT jobs...so I'm just wondering what a prospective nursing student can do to be hired for one of these positions and receive the UPMC training...thanks so much.

Yours is a good plan. Nearly all of the grads from my class in 2010 who were able to find nursing jobs were already employed as CNA's or PCT's by the facilities that hired them as RN's. Most of the others - a majority of the class - are still waiting to find that first nursing job.

You should be able to keep your employment during nursing school. I was in the eve/weekend section at my school and worked 50 - 60 hours per week at a non-healthcare job with no real problems.

Good luck to you.

I am just starting the CNA training at UPMC Jan 3rd. It was what seemed like a long process to me (about four months total) and a lot of hassle but once you are accepted it seems to go by quickly. Just know they are slow but hang in there! I start at St. Margaret in April for their LPN program and am happy that I will have some experience by the time I finish and already be in the UPMC system. The offered me p/t or f/t. I am hoping with the p/t I will be able to do it while in school. They told me if its too much I can always move to casual but that then I would get no benefits so they recommended that I start with the p/t position
