CCAC Spring 2015 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi All!

Just sending out a good luck huzzah to everyone applying for the Spring 2015 cohort at the Community College of Allegheny County.

We can start applying tomorrow and the the deadline is August 15.

I am all done with my pre-reqs and co-reqs, so am excited to get this application process rolling. I am going tomorrow to meet with an advisor to be sure all of my ducks are in a row.

Anyone else out there applying?

The drug test says between the 20-30.

I had my Hep B series rejected because I don't have an actual shot record from my childhood and absolutely no way to get it as it was tossed when my mother passed. I proved I had antibodies with m y titer but apparently I need the shot too? Has anyone had this happen besides me? If they make me get more shots when I have antibodies that seems ridiculous. I emailed and nothing yet. Also if I need the shots their is no way they can be done in time. I'm getting so nervous as I have already paid too much for this and I'm praying that doesn't stop me. Also I didn't realize the tb was two step until the other day and my second reading wont be until the 7th then I will submit it online and its a Sunday so it wont be accepted until Monday....how do they actually know if everything is through? do we have to print a form or something on the 9th? Super frustrated with this whole thing, anyone know anything about the Hep B I'd appreciate the feedback. :/

Yeah I'm going through the same thing, I just paid 85$ for a hep B shot to at least start the series. I've been trying to get someone from the school to answer me since almost three weeks ago. They keep rejecting cus I don't know my dates. I ended up emailing the dean and she basically said I need to be current in all shots and have the titer drawn after I was accepted. My titer showed I was immune already but I have no idea where or when I had the shots so that wasn't good enough. Certified profile says if the series is in process, submit info that you had the shots and additional alerts will be created as they become due.

I did mine at Start the Heart in Wexford. You get your card on the spot. It was a drive but the class is good. Dont do the online one, it won't be accepted. They have a course this Saturday 10-1:30. They offer free drinks (coffee, tea) and give you a chocolate and it's pretty relaxed. I would register today in case it fills up with other people also rushing last minute. Good luck!

You're so helpful Houlihan! Bless you@

That's what I ended up doing, I got my first shot so at least I'm in compliance.

Does anyone have the email of someone I could ask questions about the HepB shot to? I've looked all over the site and can't find anyone to get in touch with

Hope everyone got registered today! Sorry if I gave any bad advice prior to registration. Was just going off of my gut instinct and what I would do. I wish they would have made it clear that CCAC can "over ride" certified profile in some cases. This was not clear before today and most people were told to wait with their questions until today's orientation... So I might have met some of you today :) I was in the light blue group. Have super short dark brown/gray hair and was wearing ray ban glasses, white sweater and teal pants. I'm the one who said I missed the presenters name and position at the end of the introduction period :)

Thanks to whomever brought up the question about CCAC being on some sort of probation for the nursing program. I hadn't heard about that and am interested to learn more.

So they showed us our schedule....now do they register is in the computer?? Its not showing up yet.....what days did everyone get for clinical??

She said it will take a few days to show up on the computer and after that, you can apply for financial aid. My clinicals are Tuesday.

Great thank so much, you have been so helpful. My clincals are tuesday also!

For comparing current and previous editions of books: PickTextBook.com - Pick a Book You Need

After being on hold awhile, this is the information I received for what's inside the Taylor's Nursing Package ($590 from bookstore). She said she believes it's 5 books but that they don't open the boxes so they are only going off a slip of paper on the front. This seems like a dodge as she specifically asked if I was trying to get my books somewhere else. When I asked for the authors and editions of the books, I wasn't given this information. I encourage someone else to try and call and be persistent in trying to obtain this info. If my calculations are correct, I found what I think to be the correct books online for $210 less & that's at a brand new price, not even a used price.

These are the titles I relieved:

Taylors Fundamentals of Nursing 1 & 2 ( I dont understand this bc it appears to be only one book via Amazon)

Brunners Med Surg

Drug Therapy

Prep-U (maybe an NCLEX prep guide)

I would like to get this stuff used which would make it even cheaper so if you have time, and can pull out any information from the bookstore, I am sure we will all be grateful! I don't feel comfortable buying used yet as I am only 80% sure I have deduced the right books.

I called Allgheney campus so maybe if someone else tries another campus. Be prepared to wait on hold for a bit.
