CCAC Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hello,

Is anyone else in the process of applying for CCAC for fall? Right now I'm waiting for the office to finish pulling up all of my transcripts and paperwork so that I can turn in my application. I'm doing the LPN to RN, so if I get accepted I should be graduating with the class that is currently in the program. Anyone else doing LPN to RN? I'm hoping to be accepted at Allegheny. That's where I've done all of my prereq classes. My second choice is South Campus.

What do we do once we get accepted? It says nothing about scheduling classes or anything?

Ok good I was worried when I got the letter and didn't get the packet! I can't wait to start! I will message you my email :)

I know they will be sending us packets of all the things that need to be completed to keep your seat. Hopefully we will get it within a week. I already scheduled a doctors appointment for vaccines and physical just to stay on top of things.

I think we just need to wait for the packet to arrive :)

I just finished my first year at CCAC allegheny campus day program.

My daugther applied with Allegheny as first choice and North as second. She got accepted to South campus.

She is a true freshman at ccac this year - she had a 4.0 in the fall and pretty tooting close to that in high school. She took advanced placement Bio in hs and anatomy and statistics. All A's.

She is taking 161 (a & p 1) now so she got no points for that and micro in the summer - again no points.

I was told that those with points for the added classes (161, 162 and 175) got their choice. Those that didnt have the points but still had 4.0's or made the cut got put at whatever was left.

There were THOUSANDS of applicants. It is unfortunate if you cant make it to a campus that you dont live near - it is certainly understandable. My daughter doesnt want to drive so much but she will do it.

They dont make exceptions for very much. A good rule is to not ask for special treatment - especially in 101 (or 110/120 as it is in the fall). They want to see "can do" attitudes.

There are several people in my class that came from other programs. We really dont have it bad at CCAC. You get what you need to know and to pass the NCLEX.

Just some advice: get your paperwork going as soon as you get your information packet. Paperwork from the state takes time to come back. make sure all paperwork is within the time frame that they request. If you dont have it, you are out. NO exceptions.

Also get comfortable shoes.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

I added you as friend but can't message you for some reason :(

I just tried to message you but it wouldn't let me! grr

Wow I can't believe how selective CCAC has gotten!!! You would think a 4.0 would give you a first or second choice without the bonus points!

Do I need to do something to allow messages? I can change it.

You need two stars to be able to message someone. You get the second star if you post 15 times. If the other person didn't do that, they can't message you.

Kay I just messaged you.

That is a good idea to schedule your doctors appointment now. My drug test didnt get done right as the doctor asked - it was a ten panel and the lab kept doing a 7 panel. I was stressed out about that - the paperwork and the doctor order said 10 not 7. Jeez. That was a three week glitch.

There are three clearances (gotten within six months of the start date) and you need healthcare provider cpr. The scrub appointment was ok - if you need to try stuff on. Basically you will need one top, one bottom and a lab coat. My clinical instructors made us wear the lab coat to lunch and the night before over dress clothes (not all have to go the night before for assignments). I got an extra set the second semester just to have one. In the second year you have two clinical days so two sets is a good idea. I also got the warmup jacket in white - which at allegheny the will allow to substitute for the lab jacket. It comes in white or blue. Shoes must be all white. They may have changed it to nursing shoes only because people ignored the white only. I got white only good tennis shoes and they are ok. Mine were expensive but my feet never hurt.

It would be lovely to get all the information at once (paperwork, registration, orientation), but alas no you dont. So just plan that orientation will be sometime in the week or so before classes start. It is mandatory. Registration was sometime in the summer - sorry I dont remember when. I saved every piece of paper but cant find that letter.

I got my acceptance letter yesterday too. Got my first choice Allegheny evening!!!
