anywhere hiring in philly?

Hello all,

I graduated from nursing school with a BSN in may '09, it is now almost 2011 and I have been unable to get a job. I have tried nursing homes, hospitals, agencies basically anything I can apply to and everyone wants at least 1 year experience. I have family in NY and have been trying NY as well and it is even worse than philly. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in the philly area that will hire new grads? particularly nursing homes, I've tried all the hospitals in and around philly and nothing. If someone has a hook-up at a nursing home/hospital, I'm even willing to pay to put in a good word for me, that is how incredibly desperate I am now. Its is going on 2 yrs since I've graduated and I know that looks really bad, I'm afraid no where will want to hire me. I will only give this a little while longer but sometime after the new year I think I will seriously consider looking into aother field for work. Can anyone help before I make a career change?

I know some will say relocate but that will take me a while to do because I do not have much $ at the moment since I am not working.

Check out CHOP..saw new grad position there recently...only one I've seen.

Due to hospital closures over past 2 years plus economy belt tightening, glut of experienced nurses so new grad positions scarce.

Hi. I am a new grad as well and looking for employment in the Philly area. Maybe you have checked the website before but there is a graduate nurse position at the Temple University Hospital Career website that opened up 11/2010. I hope that someone is willing to give us a chance to learn and grow.

Keep an eye on Hahnemann's website- they put up new postings pretty regularly and hire new grads. You need to call HR to follow up on your application with them.

try small nursing homes outside the city, and corporations such as genesis healthcare

I've had friends hired at Jeff, HUP, Hahnemann, St. Joseph's, CHOP etc and other places around the city- there's a lot of competition for jobs but there are places hiring new grads. You want to hit all the websites daily because sometimes positions don't stay up long AND because when a new posting does go up, you want to get your application in earlier. I've heard recruiters say that they get hundreds of applications a DAY when they post new jobs.

Do you know how your friends got these jobs? Were Jeff grads hired by Jeff? Did these people know someone within the hospital? Just curious because I'm starting Jefferson's FACT program in a few months and am concerned about gaining employment in Philly after the program. I'm hoping the economy greatly improves by then, but who knows?

I went to , so the new grad nurses I know are my former classmates. I'm not sure who had connections and who didn't, but I know of at least 3 of my classmates who got jobs at Jefferson.
