2012 CCP Nursing program

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has received their acceptance letters for the fall 2012 program yet and if so how many points did you have?

Congrats everyone on making it in! I'm looking forward to meeting you all at orientation in a couple of weeks.

Maybe you can help me with what I'm sure is going to end up being a really silly question when I look back on it. I'm in the process of taking care of my background checks and I'm not sure what to put for the reason on the PA State Police check. The FBI and PA Child Abuse were easy, since those were both clearly spelled out/in the same education vein, but there are a few options to go with on this one.

I know I can ask someone at CCP on Monday, but I thought this might be a faster way to find an answer. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm nervous about taking Anatomy with Nursing but because of the residency requirement I have no choice :(

Are any of you planning to work while in school? I'm quitting my job before the semester starts, and I'm just wondering what you all are planning to do about work.

I'm most likely not going to be working but depending on the cost of school and daycare for my kids, that will determine whether I get a part-time job or not. I was thinking of just taking about a student loan to pay for my bills while I'm in school since it would be much easier to then focus on just school but we shall see I guess. If I do get a job it would probably be weekends waitressing/bartending or something just to have some cash in my pocket. It sucks though cause that would take away from study/homework time.

Do you know who you have for Anatomy? I'm taking 110 in the second summer session to get it out of the way and Nutrition in the 1st..I'm trying to keep my load as light as possible.

I went and did my fingerprint scan this past week and mailed in my child clearance. The fingerprint scan is available 2 days after you do it so there is no rush to get it done but the child clearance takes a few weeks I believe.

There is an option for Education and thats the one you chose. Hope this helps.

I still haven't received my child abuse clearance letter yet and I sent it out over two weeks ago ... What to do because there wasn't a second copy in the orientation packet. I fear that I won't have it in time for orientation . What should I do ????

No sweat. Here's the link to the online pdf form if you need it. It also has a phone number on it to call if you have questions. http://www.phila.k12.pa.us/forms/CY-113.pdf

I got mine already, but I sent it Priority. I would give them a call. I think you'll be fine.

yes I definitely am...can't continue with the process without attending

Yea I have a course to take every semester along with nursing...it wont be that bad because it's all mental and I have a strong mindset and drive to succeed...as far as employment I am definitley keeping my job...I work for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Nursing Department for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs...it wasnt easy to get so I wont quit...seeing how I work 3rd shift and only work 3 hours out of an 8 hour shift ill have plenty time to study...the broke college student cliche isnt cool anymore

yeah I would say def keep that job. I've been applying to hospitals all over trying to get anything i can but haven't been successful. I figured even if I get a job making $10 an hr at least it would be an in for when we graduate..I think I'm just oover qualified and they probably assume I would want too much money. I've been an Office Manager for over 5 years and I've been applying for administrative/clerical work..I just wish they understood I'm willing to take low pay just to be in a hospital setting.

I haven't had a job since 08' and that's largely due to my undergraduate study. There was really no way to have one and even if I did, there was really nothing on campus that interest me. I probably won't have a job this fall either but I want one because there maybe extra expenses that I did not think of and I want to be prepared should that occur. Being broke is no fun at all but I figure as long as I have what I need for school and everything involving school is taken care of than other things that don't involve school has to be put on the back burner !!!!

What are your job duties there ? Definitely sounds like a place I would be interested in once I graduate

Manscrubz - Yes, you're making the right decision to keep your job. It will be hard but you can do it. I'll always be taking one class along with nursing, too. I'm quitting my job only because it has nothing to do with nursing and can't be made part-time.

Cupidsqueen - I've been applying all over the place for clerical work, too. Finally I decided to start volunteering in the hospital for the summer. It may help me later on and certainly can't hurt. Yes, maybe they do think we're overqualified. I thought it would be easier to get a job that only requires a GED.

My husband's been really supportive and awesome, so he's happy help me if I can't work. For this reason I'm glad I waited a while to go to nursing school. I think it will be easier for us to get jobs as CNA's if we can hold out a semester before working. My mom just finished her CNA and she had two job offers before she even took her test.
