2012 CCP Nursing program

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has received their acceptance letters for the fall 2012 program yet and if so how many points did you have?

Manscrubz - Yes, you're making the right decision to keep your job. It will be hard but you can do it. I'll always be taking one class along with nursing, too. I'm quitting my job only because it has nothing to do with nursing and can't be made part-time.

Cupidsqueen - I've been applying all over the place for clerical work, too. Finally I decided to start volunteering in the hospital for the summer. It may help me later on and certainly can't hurt. Yes, maybe they do think we're overqualified. I thought it would be easier to get a job that only requires a GED.

My husband's been really supportive and awesome, so he's happy help me if I can't work. For this reason I'm glad I waited a while to go to nursing school. I think it will be easier for us to get jobs as CNA's if we can hold out a semester before working. My mom just finished her CNA and she had two job offers before she even took her test.

Shahoo, yeah you would think just needing a GED we could get a job easier but I guess there are a lot of people who didn't go to college out there..lol I keep forgetting about the CNA thing.. you've given me hope..hehe That being said maybe I could just get a loan for this coming semester and see what happens after that. Good idea volunteering.. I may look into that as well. I guess we will be all seeing eachother in a few weeks now.. its coming fast. I can't wait.

I'm not planning on working while taking the nursing classes, either, but my husband just took a pay cut (ouch) so I may have to look for something part-time over the summer. Glad to know about the CNA qualification.

Anyone else taking Microbiology this summer at main campus?

Will this be anyone's second degree ? I'm asking because I have to figure out some other way to pay for besides loans. My undergraduate used all of that up so I was wondering , if this is anyone's second degree, how are you all paying for it ?

I guess scholarships and what not but does CCP offer scholarships for nursing ? They probably due but with today's economy, you can never be to sure !!!

What are your job duties there ? Definitely sounds like a place I would be interested in once I graduate

Im a cna...since i work 3rd shift i don't do anything really...i do vitals and refresh water and just make sure that my residents are comfortable and sometimes i have to take urine or stool specimens. I plan to stay with the state but once i apply as a rn you just get placed as needed...most likely correctional facilities...RNs only make about 65,000 starting with the commonwealth

CCP has a General Scholarship App where you can apply to roughly 30 different scholarships that are available. You would have to check to see which ones you qualify for and also check the application deadlines for each but all you need is a letter of recommendation from one of the instructors at CCP and to write an essay.

From what I understand, I believe you need it before you can start. That being said I'm not 100% sure of that but I'm pretty sure you do. The woman who conducted the class for myself and a few others would be willing to do another class but she requires at least 3 people to do it. She does not offer private classes. So if you are interested and we can get 2 more individuals to sign up as well I can contact her and give her your information in order to make arrangements to hold a class. She is based out of Coatesville, PA but she does some work in the Philadelphia area so the more people, the more incentive for her to come here instead of you guys having to travel to her. Depending how large the group is she may be willing to host it at someones house. Thats what she did for me.

I see. I'm going to wait after orientation to see if it's required or not. I figure that if it is than I can probably get more people to sign up at orientation than in the forums . I wish I knew that I was accepted earlier than I would have joined your group. Thanks for the info

Just waiting to get my child abuse clearance back, don't know if I'll have it before orientation but I sent it. It says everything's not due until July but then says to bring this to orientation...hmm. Also looks like I may have to take 109 again. I had an absolutely horrible experience in that class this semester - more than half the people in it dropped. I'm just kinda freaked out bc it says to stay in the program you need a C or above in everything...I won't lose my spot over this if I take it again again, will I? Does anyone know?

Ok

1. I heard that yes everything is due July 13 however since there are additional items needed other than what was sent in your orientation packet , they want to make sure you have at least half of what's required i.e child abuse clearance , fingerprint registration number etc ... So I'm sure that's it's not the end of the world should you not have everything in by the tenth. Worst case scenario is its just more paperwork that you will have to turn in July 13

2. This will be my first semester at ccp so I'm not sure what 109 is however, with regards to the program and them overturning your admission , I would say that chance is slim to none. The people they selected , as of now is pretty set and if u have to take one other class in addition to nursing 101 , I hardly see that as grounds for dismissal . I'm not sure if you said you dropped the class or you didn't do so well in it, but if you dropped it I don't see a problem. I would just take it in the fall, it may be a heavier load but I'm sure that's something you were aware of. As far as doing poorly in a class , I'm not sure, that may be something worth bringing up to the counselors but I have a strong feeling you'll be fine . I don't see a reason why ccp would want to lose money over something that can easily be reprimanded.

Hope this helps !!!!

I highly doubt you would lose your spot in the program at this point. I've repeated classes before (including anatomy and micro) and had no problems getting accepted into the program. I think as long as you get at least a C or better in everything once the program actually starts you should be fine, but you can always double check with the school to be certain. The program is difficult but from what I understand there is a lot of support from the faculty to help students succeed.
