Pediatric Littman?

Hey everyone, I have a question...

I have been doing pediatrics in different settings (not a hospital) since graduating two years ago. For the most part, my patients have been older and I have used an adult/regular littman and it works simply swimmingly :)

I just got hired at a childrens rehab hospital where the population is younger than what I have worked in the past, also it has a NICU stepdown teaching unit.

I am considering getting a pedi steth, but not sure if I need to or not, as the one I have has served me well in the past.

I would love to hear some opinions on this...If you have worked in Peds a long time, what kind do you have?

Thanks!

I have the cardiology III which has a peds and adult bell on it, but I work home care and have both Peds and Adult cases, so it works well for me. As for you, I would definitely consider getting a pediatric scope, especially if you will be working with kids most of the time. It will definitely give you a better listen to those tiny lungs!

I have a peds ultrascope and LOVE it! I also have a littman cardiology III, but wanted to get a stethoscope that was lighter in weight, and more "fun" for my new picu job. I have a stethoscope with bright purple tubing and a hologram head... most of the kiddo's just stare at it! I agree with Liveyourlife... if you're going to be working with little one's, a peds stethoscope is needed... Our isolation pt's often have an adult stethoscope in their rooms, and they are so huge! Especially on the little little ones, I feel like all I have to do is put the adult one down in one place to hear all I need! Good luck in your new position! :)

How does the sound quality compare between the littman and the ultrascope?

I've been getting by using the adult littman I used in nursing school, but at some point want something with a smaller head.

The sound quality is about the same between my 2 scopes... I can hear murmers with no problem with either one. I absolutely love my ultrascope!

Cool, thanks! I really love how playful the ultrascopes look.
