OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012

Hi! I live in Portland, OR and want to apply for OHSU's accelerated bachelor's program for nursing, but there isn't a lot of information out there on it. I've browsed their website, but it doesn't answer all the questions I have. I would love to know exactly what they judge you on in order to get in. I know your GPA and essays are extremely important, but do they care if you have had work history, or your CNA license or not? I don't have any experience, but have a 4.0 so far in my pre-reqs, and a 3.6 in my previous bachelor's degree (in a social work field). Anyway, I want to apply for the program to enter it in the summer of 2012, so I can finish up my pre-req's and what not. I am just wondering what else I need to do, because I really want in. Also, how much does it cost, and being accelerated, is it 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, or what? I have two kids I'm going to need to find childcare for while I'm in school, so I just want to know what I'm in for. anyway, if you can help me answer any of these questions, I would so greatly appreciate it. Just got accepted to the Fall cohort! It's still an accelerated program and I'm super curious to see how the cohort is different/similar to the Summer cohort.

catieloops-honestly most of my research has been anecdotal on this website...because of linfields transfer scholarship-tuition is about the same i think...i guess since the cost is similar, i'd have to base my decision on it national reputation, ohsu is probably the choice...having said that, i'm very happy with the opportunity to go to linfield and have selected partly due to tuition differences. the school in california was going to be like $63k i think..my guess is that if you perform well, and get great references, schools wont have significant impact to your success afterwards after you've obtained your first opportunity.i have a couple sisters who have been nurses for a decade-they said once you get your first job, and perform well i think your gonna be set. truth is if you go to nationally recognized programs like john hopkins and ohsu-in all likelihood you will have some advantages when applying for your first job-my guess though if you stay local-i doubt ohsu will have a significant reputation advantage over linfield-but lets say you're applying to positions out of state-that reputation will probably be an advantage...but after 3-4 years working and you want to go get an advanced degree-im sure where you got your undergrad will have some impact, but i think at that level-gre or gmat, professional references, and overall experience will have just as significant if not more impact on your opportunities...i think applicants like embracechange have the most challenging decision to make...a school with a world class reputation like john hopkins versus a more local/state side school like linfield (with a great local reputation) balanced with $90k versus $45k for tuition...i think it comes down to long term goals and where you plan to work. if someone goes to bay area in california-starting wages is like $45 per hour...versus florida where it is like $23/hour...an additional $45k to pay back on $23/hr versus $45/hr is life affecting...but if you know your gonna go back and be a nurse practioner...i'm sure jh on an application is gonna look pretty slick...anyhow...now that everything is decided...i can't wait to get going, i've sent off my letter of intent today.

I just found out I was waitlisted and am also wondering how many people are on the waitlist. It seems like many of the people on this thread were. I am just happy to have made the alternate list though since getting in at all seemed like a longshot. My prereq gpa is a 4.0, but my overall gpa is only 3.45. I do have high gre scores and what I think is a strong essay, but it doesn't seem that those factors are enough to balance out the low overall gpa. Good luck everyone!

I've been accepted! I'll be in the Summer program. I was waitlisted for Ohsu's nurse midwifery program and it says if I accept this offer it will cancel my midwifery application. I think it's worth it to just accept since the chances are so small for getting in off the waitlist and I was told the midwifery program is already full. Can always apply for my masters after I get my B.S.N.I can't wait to meet my cohort. Has anyone started a Facebook group page yet? Good luck to all those still waiting to hear and I feel for those of you waitlisted or rejected as I was feeling the same way when I found out about the midwifery program.

I got accepted for the Summer cohort. I was so ready to have my heart broken as I drove home from school today. As soon as I saw the big envelope I knew it's gonna be a good news. Midwife22, can I pls have your email number? Am really looking forward to seeing you! Am just nervous abt the whole thing now. Going to drop the other nursing school online tonight, if not tomorrow. Kinda sad since I already make friends there. But life is about making choices, isn't it!

I live in Lake Oswego right next to Portland and didn't receive my letter until today. Give it a little more time. I would expect for Seattle to hear in the next 2 days. Good luck!

Got my letter *finally*...denied. Not even waitlisted? Would anyone mind posting their gpa's? I have a 3.8 in my pre-reqs and a 3.5 overall...thought my letter was strong, obviously not enough so. Just want to get a feel for what I'm up against next year. Best of luck to those that got accepted, only wish I were joining you :(

4.0 in pre reqs and 3.75 overall (with bachelor's degree) - waitlisted.
