Povidone Iodine prep solution

We use the large 1-gal bottles of povidone iodine for prep solution in our cases. We recap the bottle and use it again until it is empty. I know that we should NEVER recap a bottle. This practice has been around for years. Do any of you do this? If so, have you ever had issues with TJC (the joint commission)? Do you have suggestions? Thanks!

When we were primarily prepping with iodine (have since switched to primarily ChloraPrep), we had single use 4oz. bottles. Sometimes don't need it all, but leftovers get tossed.

We also have the large bottles and they get thrown away after opened. When we asked about getting the smaller bottles we were told that the larger ones were cheaper. Go figure.

The only thing we can recap per policy at work is the 70% alcohol bottles. Betadine, hibiclens, glycerin, etc - we don't recap and reuse. Some people don't seem to understand it, but I simply don't use already opened stuff, I toss it and open new.
