West coast university graduates, help!

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello all,

I'm currently thinking of going to west coast university and can't decide whether or not to go because it is extremely expensive. I was told that it would be around 130k before the transfers are evaluated, and the cost might go down after.

What I wanted to know is are the graduates of the school having a hard time finding jobs after graduating? Because I wouldn't mind paying so much if I knew that there are high chances of me finding a job after graduating so I can start making payments. And does the school help you find a job?

Also, how is the experience of the school? And we're you able to apply for any scholarships to help with the cost? Thanks so much!!!

The cost was a reason I delayed going as well plus retaking some of my science courses again, however I was wait-listed twice for a Nurses program and I didn't want to wait another year because my courses are getting old so I went for it and from my friends and me here in Dallas the program is good. Everyone I know have found jobs that graduated from WCU. In the last year they will help you with resume and job search. They do have private loans I don't know about scholarships.

I won't deny that the cost is horrendous; however, I have known a fair amount of WCU graduates get jobs. E.g., I heard about ten WCU (North Hollywood) graduates are now working at White Memorial in LA. So yes, they do get jobs.

But does that mean they are guaranteed jobs?

In 2012, an associate director told me that my nursing school had a "100% hiring rate within six months." Out of the fifty of us who graduated, only five are working. So proceed with caution. Make connections and network.

You did not mention whether WCU is your only available option. The Tuition is ridiculously expensive. Have you looked at any the Community Colleges or State Schools in your immediate area? Have you done most of your nursing prerequisites? I would recommend that you look at much cheaper options available before committing to WCU, since your student loan debt will be huge at the end of the program, compare to your peers graduating from Nursing School. ok, i don't know how odd my "case" is, but here we go. I am 37 and was a stay at home mom. my kids are in school and i will be getting a divorce. thing is i didn't do anything while i took care of my kids. i just enjoyed being with them and now. i am being given the chance to begin doing something for myself, be fore the divorce is final. I'm not old, but I'm not getting any younger. debt scares me and the reality that it could take a long time to get out of it, is nerve wrecking, but I have to remind myself, its not impossible. also, i idea that i would have to be put on waiting list for classes is scary, again, I'm a bit to old to be waiting for what could be years.. anyways so here is my question.. i have made up my mind to be a nurse. it is what i want and desire. i just want has much advise as possible from people of all ages, older in particular. who could best help me in choosing the right path that i should take to get my BSN. i live in Southern california (los angeles). high school graduate and I'm thinking west coast university is the best option for me, but i need to Know and not 'think" does any one have any ideas or advise that they could offer. the only thing i have my heart and head set on is being a nurse and not waiting to wait to long.

Do you have any general ed classes or prerequisites done? I started to apply for WCU in Anaheim and got to the financial aid... I couldn't justify that much money a month as opposed to trying out cc classes.

Why go 4 years or so doing an ADN when you can get. BSN in the same amount of time or less. ADN is no longer an option for me now that I know about all the BSN programs that I can get just as fast or less.

The great thing bout West Coast is they have their simulation center that mirrors the hospital setting and you do real work without having to risking it on an actual human. You are doing everything and being evaluated. The talking mannequins where the instructor is talking brought it to give you the real life feeling. It looks like a good challenge and fun at the same time. Good experiences. I hear it's a great program.
