Wanting to apply to LA county college of nursing lvn to RN ADN track

Hello!

So I did graduate from this college in May 2015 and took the LVN-RN track. The best way of getting in is getting good grades in pre-reqs, especially in the sciences and studying for the TEAS entrance test. Based off your grades and score on that test you will be given points. Copy and paste this link to see the break down and average number of points for accepted students.

It is a great school and the clinical experience was amazing! The county hospitals love hiring LA County Coll of Nursing grads. I actually just got hired in to the OR!

Having a certain amount of direct patient care in a healthcare facility also adds a point to your point total. The school strongly discourages working and there is no way to work full time without it hurting your school work. I know some of my peers worked part time but they did not have a spouse or kids so it was easier but they didn't work full time. The good thing about the LVN-RN track is that it is only a few weeks in the summer for the LVN transition and then two semesters. I highly suggest applying because the experience is priceless. p.s. There is only one application period for LVNs and that is in the Fall.

Thanks so much for all of the useful info. In definitely trying to get all A's in all my prereqs. Anat and physiology I got A's and am waiting on my micro grade to post so hopefully that will be an A. I have a few more prereqs such A's psychology and speech but I plan on taking those this summer and applying to county later this year when the app period starts. If you dont mind me asking how many points did you have when you applied? Also does the school have a waiting list? So you know how many bridge students they accept each appllication period? Thanks.

It sounds like you're on the right track with your grades so that is great! I had 91 out of 93 points but people got as low as 79 in my group that got in. There is no waiting list but if you don't get in the first time you apply you get an extra point the next time you apply. I think we had around 25-30 that were accepted but they split the group so half started in Fall 2014 and the second half started in Spring 2015. They have info sessions after the application period opens and they can answer your questions more accurately with more updated info since I started in 2014.
