UTA, UT Tyler and FSU Nursing

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi

I have a question would like to ask about all the listed nursing schools above.

I'm currently a pre-nursing and also an international student (F1) . I applied to three nursing schools for Fall 16 (UTA, UT Tyler, and Florida State). I have been accepted to UT Tyler and Florida State. I'm also on UTA wait list and have strong feeling that i would get in UTA as well. Since I have options, I'm not sure which one to choose. So I would like to ask for experience of all who have been attending or already finished BSN program at these schools.

For those who got the degree from those schools, were you able to get a job easily? Did you know any nursing student that was international student and graduated same time with you that could get a job after school?

For UT Tyler and FSU, since I don't much about these areas, would you please share some of your experience there? (area safety, cost of living,...) I have never been to Florida so I have absolutely no idea what it's like out there.

I'd greatly appreciate your reply :)

Hello, I attended UT Tyler, graduated May of 2013 with a BSN. It was a great school, great nursing program. They've since changed a lot of faculty members, so I can't tell you how the program is currently. The curriculum was thorough and tough. Congratulations on being accepted because the program is very competitive. I can honestly say that I did receive job offers fairly quickly. I had offers before graduation. Good luck! :)

Thank you for replying. Would you mind if I ask where you got the job offer from? Since I'm international student, I'm afraid it won't be the same for me. UT Tyler offers me good scholarship so I'm debating if I should stay in TX.

No problem! I had offers from Trinity Mother Frances, ETMC, and UTHSC in Tyler, then Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Longview also has Longview Regional Medical Center, but I didn't apply at that one. Tyler also has Texas Spine and Joint Hospital if you want to apply to more than three hospitals.

that's great. Did you know anyone that was offered jobs in DFW areas?

I'm sorry if I ask many questions. I'm still trying to decide which school to go

No problem, it's an exciting time for you. I understand  Most offers from the DFW area that I knew of were by UTSW and Parkland.

I am very excited. So many people said nursing was hard for them so I'm preparing myself for that :sarcastic:

I also have another question. While you were in nursing school, did you know any international student that was only in the program with you? Were they able to get a job easily after school? Because I am international student, I'm afraid it will be hard for me to get job as an international student. :sorry:

Unfortunately, no, I wasn't aware of any international student. I'm not quite sure why that would hurt your chances of getting a job offer as long as you have the degree and license ;).

I hope so too. Maybe I worry over nothing :sarcastic: Do you know any NCLEX review book that you'd recommend? I plan to start to study for NCLEX once I start nursing school.

I currently attend the BSN program at FSU and it is horrible. I was looking into other programs after only a month. I would not recommend it to anyone. It is highly unorganized, the administration is unprofessional, and instruction/preparation is lacking, especially compared to what they expect of us.

In terms of job opportunities in Florida, they'll hire almost anyone with a pulse somewhere. Last I heard was that there were 12,000 job openings for RNs in February in the state.

Not sure what you decided to do, but I highly recommend an option other that Florida State. I would transfer, but am in too deep at this point.

P.S. I have done very well in the program, but that is all from teaching myself. Just an FYI in case this sounds like a bitter post.

Surely appreciate your time to reply my post. I got accepted to UTA nursing at the end, so I decided to attend there. I was looking at FSU, but since I got in UTA, I decided to stay my first choice school. :)
