SFSU ELMSN Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Haven't seen a thread for this upcoming cohort. So please share your information so we could all learn about each other and answer each others questions :)

Deadline for CSUApply and NursCAS was Feb 1, 2018.

Week of March 19th: Group Interview Invitations

Week of March 27-April 3: Group Interviews

3rd and 4th week of April Final Admission Decisions

Graduated June 2016 with a Bachelor's in Health Science Administration and Management. Decent/Average stats and letters of recommendations for the program. 5 years of management experience in a variety of settings: retail, non-profit, and health. I have about 1 year of clinical experience, and 1 year of working in an assited living facility.

Looking forward to hearing more about the rest of the people applying for this cohort!

It's the 20th! Any interview invites yet? No responses on this thread, let's share info/details!

I graduated Dec 2012 with a BA in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. 4 years of experience in laboratory pharmaceuticals, and I started working as a CNA in Jan 2018, got my license in summer 2017 but didn't work until I was done w/ full-time school finishing up some of my Pre-Req's. I have volunteer experience from the Napa-Sonoma Fires and food bank volunteer; but nothing more clinical or medical-related.

My stats are as follows:

Undergrad GPA: 3.28

Post-BA GPA: 4.00

Overall GPA: 3.46

HESI Scores: Math-98; Grammar-96; Vocab-96; Reading-96; Anatomy-76 (I hadn't taken Physio yet when I took my HESI, I'm retaking the HESI 3/21/18 for other Samuel Merritt programs.)

GRE Scores: Verbal-158, 80th percentile; Quantitative-153, 51%; Analytical Writing-5, 93%

Anyway, holler if anyone hears anything!

Oh the other after-thought I wanted to share: Any idea how financial aid plays a part in the University of Nursing calling for interviews or acceptance? Does it play a role? Why do we get Financial Aid award letters before even knowing if we have gotten accepted to the program? I just got my email today with Financial Aid award information--do I need to accept that prior to knowing if I'll make the program? Thanks for any info/advice you have in advance!

Hi there. Thanks for starting this thread. Anyone gotten an email yet about interviews? I'm still waiting patiently!

I also got my financial aid award letter which seems weird to receive before acceptance, but I'm not sure it means anything other than the financial aid office may be more efficient than the admissions office!

My stats:

Graduated in 2011 with a BA from NYU

Undergrad GPA: 3.85

Prereq GPA: 4.0

GRE writing score: 5

I've been working as a chiropractor's assistant for 4 years and have been a volunteer with hospice for 2.5 years. I also will have 120 hours volunteering in postpartum at our community hospital by the end of this semester. I am a nanny for a 1 year old. Kind of varied experience, but nothing clinical which makes me nervous.

Anyway, good luck to all. Please let us know if you receive an interview email!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one anxiously waiting to hear back! It's 3/21 and still nothing :)

As for me I graduated with my BS in chemistry in 2012 with an average GPA. I have worked the past five/six years at a cancer clinic as a coordinator for patients - I schedule, request documentation from other hospitals, and work with insurance.

Looking forward to what's to come!

@PunchItChase

I am currently a student in this program. And I also never really figured out why they show you the financial aid prior to interviews, but it does not have anything to do with interviews/acceptance and you don't need to accept right now. You can just wait til after you receive the acceptance :)

Hi @etude1 !

Can you tell us about how you like the program? Which track are you? Is it possible to work while completing the degree? Thanks!

Hi @abell06

Of course! I think like many other nursing programs, you have to rely on yourself to study and understand the material. Don't expect the professors to teach you everything.

I am part of the Adult Gerontology track, but you can definitely change your track during the program (not entirely sure when the cutoff is).

I stopped working during 2nd semester because we ended up having class/clinical Mon-Fri. Although they do try very hard to make sure that we have one day off in the week, it does not always work out. I know a few people who still are working, but the majority have stopped. So it really depends on yourself and whether you can handle that workload.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for making this thread =)

Anyone heard back yet? I've been so nervous and anxious everytime my phone rings hahaha

Haven't heard anything yet.. anyone else?

No word yet. Anxiously waiting along with everyone (well hopefully everyone) else. Maybe they wait until the weekend to send out the interview invites. For now, I will continue to sit at my desk and pretend to be focused on my work when all I can think about is whether or not I'll get an interview. Good luck guys!

Edit: It looks like they started sending out interview requests for the BSN program yesterday. Maybe they are doing all requests for that program before sending out ours.

Hi all - I called in today to question the status. They are still sending out interview requests through early next week. I was also told, if you were denied you would also receive an email. LOL, so just in case you were nervous because you haven't received anything...
