OHSU accelerated program--how insane is it?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I've been accepted to Rogue Community College's nursing program, and just yesterday, received an email saying a spot had opened up in the OHSU Portland campus Accelerated BSN and I was next on the alternate list. I have to decide which program I want to go to by Monday July 20! (Basically tomorrow evening!)

I know all nursing schools are tough and I have heard that the OHSU accelerated program is insanely hard. I'd like to get an idea from any current or past students just how manageable it is. Just how fast do these classes move? Do you feel like there is enough time to study for the classes you have? Do you feel like it is overwhelming? Is part of the reason the program only last 5 terms because they aren't doing all those non-nursing electives that other programs require, since we've got those done in our previous bachelor's degree? How many credits do you take per term? Are you glad you chose to do the accelerated program rather than a regular paced program?

I have no kids, no spouse or significant other, and won't be working while doing school. I was halfway down the alternate list and had about a 3.6 or so GPA in my previous degree in geography (I think being 20 and immature at the time had something to do with that), although I got straight A's on my prerequisites last year. The prerequisites were done at a community college and I didn't have a busy schedule when I did them, though.

Thoughts? Insight? Advice? Thank you in advance!
