NJCU ABSN 2018-19 Cohort

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Aspiring Nurses,

So I may be a bit early, considering the 2017 class is just now getting their acceptance letters for this coming Fall. But since late last year, I've been preparing to apply to the NJCU ABSN Jersey City cohort that will begin in 2018. I wasn't able to apply to the 2017 cohort as my prerequisites were not finished in time. I figured others may be in the same boat, so I figured why not get the conversation going. The application will open in October, and that's creeping up quickly, as it always does. ;)

Therefore, I'd like to start this forum to discuss any questions or concerns we might have. I'm attending the info seminar next Wednesday, 3/29 at 5 PM - anyone else going? Some of my concerns are financial aid, specifically how much non-need based aid is available as many of us may not qualify for need-based aid if we work full time now. I currently work in Financial Aid, so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to give any info I have. I'm also curious about credit requirements for prereqs - I can't seem to find specific numbers (e.g. how many A&P credits do we need).

Overall, I hope to connect with others who are interested in applying to start in 2018, Jersey City and Wall - please share your thoughts, and I look forward to speaking with you!

Brittany

Hi everyone, I recently submitted my application for the Wall campus. Anyone else applying for that one?

Hi Prickles! Yes I've just applied to the Wall campus too! I live nearby in Jackson so it'd be very convenient. I just finished the HESI a week ago too. Do you have a particular reason why you chose Wall over the Jersey City program?

Fingers crossed!

@bswanda

I don't recall there being any plant biology on the exam

Wall is a more convenient location for me, plus I like the summer start more than the fall start! I did consider Jersey City since they take more applications so I thought it might be slightly less competitive. Is anyone applying anywhere else?

I applied to Duke and Miami as well. Duke says they're the #1 nursing school in the nation but it's really expensive and wouldn't start until the fall. Miami is fairly cheap for a nursing school. ($40k)

Also I don't remember plant biology being on the HESI either. It focused a lot on cell biology though. E.g. what the cell membrane is made of, where DNA replication takes place

Thanks @prosanno and @angeloc! I applied to JC because they accept more applicants and I love the nursing program so I really hope to get it. I also put an application out for Caldwell because they have the same prereqs. Wishing everyone the best of luck

Good luck! I know Jersey City accepts more applicants but I wonder how the acceptance rate compares with the Wall campus since Wall probably receives fewer applications.

@Bswanda No problem! I just completed my application for NJCU in JC. I might also look into Caldwell.

So nervous and excited.

Good luck everyone!! I hope to see lots of acceptance letters for everyone in this forum in a few months!!

I just took the HESI today! I got a 92 but I was hoping for higher í ½í¸” how did everyone else do?

Congrats Jazmin since NJCU requires only an 80 to be considered, a 92 is a great score that you should be proud of! I got a 91 myself for the Wall campus test.

I looked at the averages through the score report and the following lists out the average for all NJCU Wall applicants this sycle:

Math: 84

Reading: 85

Grammar: 84

Vocab: 87

Bio: 79

Anatomy: 75

Cumulative: 82.3

Has the nursingCAS verified anyone's transcripts yet? Most of mine are verified from last year but I'm still waiting on the rest of it and I'm getting nervous!

Hi Brittany!

Do you know when the NJCU ABSN (Jersey City campus) program begins?

Emily
