Miami Dade College (MDC) ADN Class of 2014!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone, Let's get this discussion going! As we wait over the next few weeks for acceptance letters, I thought we would start a discussion for our class and get to know one another!

I have found so much information on this site and I am already planning on doing my CPR, drug, TB, and titers, as well as the background check before we get the letters. From what I understand the wellness center gets super busy when everyone starts trying to get their stuff done for nursing school. So I'm planning to do this early. If you want the link to everything we have to do before orientation let me know. :)

I think last year they received letters in mid-June if I remember correctly but it varies each semester.

Background info about me.

I applied to the Medical Campus for both the Accelerated Option (AO) and Generic Full Time but at this point my goal is AO.

Haven't received my final grades yet but my GPA should be 3.7 (its currently 3.52)

and my TEAS score was 88 (that was the most stressful day ever!)

To calculate your score you #1.) multiply your GPA x 10 (3.52 x 10 = 35.2) and #2.)then you multiply your TEAS score by .6 (because it counts for 60% of your admission score) so (88 x .6 = 55.8). #3.)Then you add these two together. (35.2 + 55.8 = 88)

Good luck everyone! Can't wait to meet my nursing school (NS) family!!!!

Hello all....I am presently in the last 8 weeks of the AO program at MDC. Good-luck to you all! I think my combined score was an 84, and I got into both the AO and Generic tracks. I believe most of my counterparts had at least a score of 80. I would just work on the CPR class for now if you haven't done that. The shots/titers/health screenings, you can wait until you get the acceptance letter. In fact, that stuff isn't really that necessary until the program starts. The screenings are really for the clinical sites, so you have plenty of time to get those done. If you want to, you may also want to get at least a flu shot, as most hospitals now require you to get one to attend clinicals there. The Wellness Center can do everything but it's very hectic, and if you have a primary care that can take care of everything for you, I would go that route.

Good-luck to everyone. I was on the site for something else and decided to check this board. I know how anxious I was before I got the acceptance letter! It has been a very quick year in AO but I am looking forward to the light at the end of the tunnel. AO is not for the faint hearted and although it has been very fast, it has been a year filled with much stress and many long hours!

Feel free to contact me further when you get into the program for some quick tips before the program starts :-)

Hi Guys! Signed up for all nurses because I was accepted into the AO option at MDC. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'd love if you were willing to share some more advice. I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not going to lie, I'm trying not to be scared but I'm definitely anxious about the studying and keeping up. I'd love to just be as prepared as I can. Any tips/advice on how to prepare mentally, academically, materials before starting, anything? I'm planning on getting a laptop before class starts but should I bother with a printer. I just figured I could print everything at school and save on inc and etc. How do you relieve stress, anytime to work out? Lol. I'm sorry to bother but anything helps. Thank you and good luck!!

Hi everyone! I applied to the AO option and was accepted. I believe I got a TEAS score of 75-78ish. My GPA was decent... 3.3 or so. Good luck to you all! To Maiya: Ditto I'm so ready to start study groups as well. LOL[/quote']

You're starting in January??

Hi Everyone - Was wondering if any of you were looking for a roomate. I'm in the AO program starting in Jan. 2014. I'm originally from Miami but currently live in NYC. Would love to share housing with someone going through the same insanity.

I found a few nice places down by school, which are in the nice high-rise buildings and are about $700 each.

hello. Anyone knows the retention rate for accelerated program. The number accepted and the number who actually graduate in the program? Thanks

Hello. I cannot message yet, so maybe you can help me with my question. I was planning to apply in MDC AO. I originally plan to go to broward, but their retention rate is so low. Only 10% graduate on track. I was wondering how many of you got accepted and how remain or finished the program? Thanks

Hi guys, I just found this thread while I was searching for other people that applied to the nursing program for this year (2015). I have a couple of question. Do you know if MDC help you with job placing after you graduate? I was just curious to know if they mention any of that while you take classes. And do they offer scholarships like the Baptist Scholars Program? I know that they stopped offering that to MDC students a while back, but maybe other hospitals offer the same?

Thanks!!
