    I got an 80! overall points 25.89
Great job!! Took mine yesterday too, got an 82. So my points are sittnig at 25.92. So hopefully everything works out. From what the dean said yesterday I should feel comfortable. But you never know, I have read some horror stories on here. I did talk with a couple of other ladies that were retaking the kaplan yesterday and reapplying to the program and it seemed like there were quite a few people reapplying. I know that extra point for reapplying makes the difference for a lot of people.

I couldn't believe though that with having the final Kaplan tests last night they were going to try and get letters out by August 1st. That just seems so far away.

I don't know what to think because so many folks may have done well if I knew the average that would give people a good idea. Where is the cut off this time? I imagine they know a lot more than they tell us even before the tests, then after they certainly know, I was told I have a good shot at being in but until we know where everyone sits no idea, a lot of students took the test yesterday of the two dates only 8 tested on the 11th.

She said latest August 1st but for those that do get in we will need to do things after that such as CPR certification and other steps, so those students need to know where they are before that point. I also don't believe everyone that says they got this or that score or number of points because I asked Bonnie what her story was the poster above and she didn't say. I talked to actual nursing students on campus every chance I got, I was told don't believe those folks that did not EVER get in that they had 3.9's and 80+ Kaplans and still did not get in I spoke with a girl that was in the program and she said she had a 3.7 and got in. With it being a competition I don't expect people to be honest

Did the Dean tell you where folks were sitting average? I mean so many people took the test last minute they must have a lot to go over now. I did hear one girl left crying, another lady I knew was really bright but she told me she got a 78, which I am not sure I believe that either.

You are absolutly right about people not being honest about getting what they say they got. I talked to a few people before the test last night, but after we were handed our test paper with our info on it and it seemed like several people that I expected to have a higher point total going in, looked a little light on the points if you know what I mean. But who knows how they did on the test. I guess we'll just wait and see. I hate this part. I do wonder though if the dean told people last summer that it would be around August 1st, I was sure I read a couple posts that said they got their letters like the 21st of July or so.

I think you did really well and Im happy for you. We had pharm together, although I can't match a face to your name you can figure out who I am...Im Black and a guy....narrowing that down shouldn't be hard. I was told the chances even at my points are pretty good, but I did well in my courses and it sounds like you did too. I can't speak for everyone I don't know I do know some people who repeated the hard stuff, I am not saying it was a boat load because honestly that is not my concern nor business. I just know when folks stop showing up to class 6 weeks in that kinda tells ya right there. I am beginning to believe people did not do as well overall as you might think, because even if I don't or you don't make the cut this time with the extra point on the next round you're looking at what almost 27 points?

One last thing I noticed you just joined the board in June, I have been all over these boards for months, and searching emailing anyone and everyone about the Kaplan, If you did well in your classes and you had a good Kaplan score and it sounds like you did, you should get in. The only real concern is reapps who are they? How many? It seems as if good grades and high Kaplans go hand in hand, if students did not do well with the GPA they don't become geniuses all of a sudden on the Kaplan. So relax let it out of your mind, as Lois would say BREATHE....I also kinda think they want to see us sweat it out a little see how we handle the stress, but honestly with computer programming and already having added our point totals up before the Kaplan they know should know within a day or so if they entered the totals pre-Kaplan how and where people are post Kaplan this process should not take a genius to figure out. I really believe they are not telling us the entire story of the selection process, they swear it's all numbers and such but I tend to believe it's a tad more to it.

No unfortunalty she said that they didn't know at this time what the average was. Which is hard to believe they would have a report on that it's all done on computer. I mean we know right away. Why wouldn't they. You are right about one lady crying though, I witnessed it, I felt awfull for her. I didn't hear the conversation but I assumed she didn't get what she needed to on the test. I didn't realize though that only 8 people took it on the 11th. There were 25 in there last night (I counted) and there were 3-4 papers leftover for people that did a no show. She did say there were 150 apps that got turned back in. But if you do the math and there were only 8 on the 11th and 25 in my time slot, that does not add up to 150 there could not have been that many people in the other 2 times yesterday.

She told me about 90 were to test so the rest may be reapps, she also explained to me that a lot goes into that because you have people that apply while taking there pre-requisites too meaning some applied but did they pass their classes that were required? I had a high Compass score for math so I was told I could advance placement test out, well I waited until the last minute to do it, I did it Friday, which meant if I don't pass this test, Im out of the running no need to take the Kaplan my app would have been disqualified, and the Dean called me up to tell me you're running real close to having me disqualify you because you don't have all the classes technically, thankfully by one question I passed, one more wrong and I wouldn't be talking now. As for the lady you're talking about I know her and she has had some outside issues going on and she had someone take the test before her that refused to tell her a word about it, and they were best friends.

I did just join. I found the sight last year when I started classes and hadn't really been back in a long time and figured it could be a more usefull tool that I originally gave it credit for and well I suddenly have more time on my hands since classes ended.

I figure that a ton had to be reapps, but oh well. You're were right though we had pharm together I sat in the front by the door. But anyway yes Lois would tell us to "breathe". You really did cut that close with testing out though, I can't belive you waited so long, I would have had a heart attack. I debated on testing out but figured I would use the easy A to maintain a good GPA in case I tanked in pharm or patho.

I can't believe that her friend wouldn't tell her anything about it. I mean come on. I'm not saying she should have given her answers or anything but a heads up like "brush up on your verb usage" and "proper comma placement" or "fractions" or "hey there was a question about hypertension...". I getthe competative thing and everyone for themselves but with a test like that there is only so much you can help someone anyway. Who needs friends like that. I really did fell bad for her when she walked out, thats too bad she had so much going on at that time. I wondered if it was one of those things that she felt like she barely missed what she felt her cut off would be as far as points and was kind of in shock or if she did way worse. Either way maybe she can reapply and get her extra point for spring.

Besides CPR classes do you or does anybody out there know what else we will need for fall just to be prepared.

Hopefully I'll see you in the fall. Let me know when you get your letter or if you get any more inside info and I'll do the same.

OH I will let you know no problem, as for the info I gave ya it's all info I got from Phyllis, she told me I was being a bit pushy to ask so many questions, but I felt that there was not a lot of info out for people to know. They want it that way. But she was the one that told me about only 8 people tested on the 11th, one of which she told get your CPR stuff, but if that person tested that means they are not a reapp either. It is competitive I would have shared with people all I knew but not knowing if I would make the cut it really became a question of what is going to help myself out so that I have not wasted so much money and time you know? Cause when I got your email I was going to spill like know this and that, but you did better than I did overall anyway so kudos to you.

Plan B is fine but let's talk numbers what were your numbers if you had a 3.97 and 80 off Kaplan no retake, all points for no transfers beyond 8 credits, I got almost 26 points going? The last cycle the cut off was 25.4 I was told by the dean you have a good chance at getting in. So where did you fall?
My total score was 7.2 (which was a 72 on the Kaplan.....Unfortunately I fell short on the science and the writing section..did very well in reading comp and math) my grade pt. was 3.86 and I received all points for no transfer credit or re-take. When I took the Kaplan, the group I was in was the first at the school to take the test. I found the Kaplan study guide to be VERY different from the actual test. None the less; I was not happy with my score. The only reason I knew where I stood after not being accepted into the program was a call I put into the head of the Nursing Dept. She informed me that I was #52, only 45 were admitted (up five from the previous year). I also had one point for re-apply. It has been almost a year since I first took the Kaplan (I took it in the fall of 2010). So guessing I would say I had roughly 25.14 points total.
The reason for my post on PLAN B, was a mere suggestion. Unfortunately for some people who have great GPA, but do not do as well on the Kaplan; could possibly be due to anxiety, the pass or fail anxiety, this ONE test is crucial to gain as many points possible. When testing for a particular class, if you don't do well on one test, many times there are plenty others that you have the opportunity to do better on. So my suggestion was simple.....Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Nursing School is VERY competitive and you have to always be on the top of your game. I will say you did VERY WELL on your Kaplan (KUDOS to you)! When I applied the Nursing Dept. head informed me that the average (when I first took it) was around 76. Seems like you have a good chance, which is dependent on the AVERAGE score of all testers applying, GPA, re-take and transfer classes and of course the re-app points. Good Luck and hope you get accepted!

In response to "tad more to it" I remember asking "what if" questions to the Dean. She put it this way; Say 5 people all have the the EXACT same points (hypothetically speaking 25.9). My question; The last spot open, 5 people, same over-all points; Who will get that last spot? She replied that they look at when the student applied to the program (declaring their major in nursing), and the earliest date would be the one who got the spot.....so I guess this may be ONE reason it takes a bit longer; down to the last one hundredth of a point, students finishing up their pre-requisites (so final grade GPA can be re-calculated) and when you declared your major in nursing! I do agree with you, they probably have a good idea of the candidates who qualify. I'm sure they do NOT want to make any mistake, especially when your dealing with a point system that comes down to the hundredth point position and only a handful of seats open with MANY applicants. Concentrate on the three "P's" Patience, Positive attitude, and PRAYER....
