Hi all. i recently applied with GCU for the RN-BSN online. this is what the nice lady emailed me.Highlights include:

  • No clinical rotation or mandatory outside group work
  • Flexible schedule that allows you to attend classes based onyour availability
  • No pre-requisites or co-requisites required, which means no chemistry or college algebra
  • Theoretical-based curriculum (reading, research and papers)
  • Limited, if any, tests or quizzes

This is too good to be true. Any graduates from GCU out there? also how long is the program approximately? thanks

I am currently attending GCU in the RN-BSN. I am taking my fifth class. I have had no tests or quizzes as of yet. They took all of my ADN credits plus some previous college credits. I started on July 9, 2012 and my anticipated graduation date is in August. The classes run for 5 weeks and you take one course at a time. You can take up to 2 weeks off between classes with change to financial aid. There are no clinical requirements. Each class has 2 discussion questions a week you answer and then you reply to other posts a minimum of 2 responses per day on at least 3 days. There is a group assignment each class which is hard to coordinate at first online but now it is much easier for me. The assignments are generally either a 1000-1500 word paper or powerpoints(15-20 slides) so far. I am enjoying the learning and I am able to work full time and spend time with my family.

wow. thanks for your reply. right now i am caught between GCU and chamberlain. GCU because it is cheaper than chamberlain, and chamberlain because i can finish in about 8-9 months.

Are you in the stats class yet? I'm wondering what the set up is like? It's one class I'm worried about. I'm set to start in Feb.

do everyone have to take the stats class? if it math stats then i can transfer that because i am scared of stats

It took me two tries to get through (math) statistics online at GCU. I was failing two weeks in. So I withdrew from the class and retook it. I think I was only reimbursed 25% for the class. I was able to download the course work before I withdrew. This enabled me to do a practice round before I retook the class. I got an A on my second try.

I completed my BSN at GCU one year ago. They took my ADN credits and credits from Rutgers. I've been an RN for 14 years and have found that having my BSN is very helpful as far as job procurement and job security (if there still is such a thing as job security).

I am considering going for my MSN at GCU or Chamberlain. Has anyone else completed their MSN at either of these schools?

What can you share about statistics? Any tips that enabled you to get an A in this class? How is the class sat up with quizzes and such?

I am currently enrolled in GCU RN-BSN program. I am starting the stats class on Jan 28th. I currently have a 4.0 GPA with them.

Any help will be appreciated!!

I'm with rn-centered. You can pm me as well. I really am interested in how you were successful. If you have to withdraw how do you go about doing so? Do you pick up the class at the end or do you take it immediately and the rest of your classes start and end times are adjusted?

This class scares the heck out of me. What was difficult and like rn-centered said, any tips would be really helpful.

@tokmom and centered rn, I haven't posted enough to be able to PM.

For statistics, I continued the class work even after dropping (for practice, not a score). I had family help correct my homework. The tests are on line and once you submit them, you get an instant score so you can see what you need to work on. I took all 5 tests right before I dropped the class. This way I knew exactly what to study for the second time around.

If you need to drop a class, just talk to your enrollment counselor.
