FSW FALL 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello Everybody. My name is Keesh. I'm starting this thread a little early to get a head start on things. I was looking into starting nursing school in the Spring of 2018, but things come up. Now I'm going to start in the FALL. I'm currently looking into the FSW ANEW program which works better with my work schedule. I was told by a student the ANEW program is just like being in the FULL TIME program except it's online. It consist of hard work, time consuming and dedication. I plan to apply for LEE campus as well.

*CHOW

Thank you so much! My other question is when applying do they accept second attempt grades. I had a tough semester and didn't do so great, but I retook the classes I need to and don't have anything less than a B in any of the prerequisites. I thought I read somewhere they only accept first attempt grades, is this true?

Traditional is 3 days a week to start, and builds to 4 days a week over the semesters. You will end up having progressively longer clinical. We started at 8 hours for the clinical day, and now transitioning to 8.5 to 9 hour days, eventually during the 3rd and 4th semesters, those clinicals are going to be 12 hours. If you're in the ballpark of about 80 - 85% on the TEAS, you should be okay for Lee, but try to retake it if you can. I used the TEAS manual from ATI and their 2 practice tests online bundle for my exam review. Those questions were fairly similar to what I had on the TEAS.

Hey! I plan on doing traditional and this first time around I didn't study and much as I could have that is why I want to take it again, but I have the TEAS manual with the practice tests

You're welcome! I believe they only look at your first attempt grades for the pre-reqs. That's why they lean more on the TEAS score to gauge your knowledge of the basics. Definitely check with Chris Renda, the nursing support specialist, as he is the one who is directly involved with the application process and any changes that they make to the application and program. I know they're trying to make it even more competitive now, because the program itself is becoming more challenging as the national boards are adding more stuff to the NCLEX.

Hi. Attended the informational meeting and was told that only first attempt grades are taken. That changed from a couple years ago. Email or call nursing at FSW. And please, if you find out multiple attempt grades are taken, double check. I was devastated.

Okay thank you!

I found out about the first attempt at work yesterday and cried my eyes out as soon as I got in my car. I'm in the same boat as you I was going to apply with a 3.6 but now am applying with a 3.1. The first time I took the TEAS I didn't study at all I went in and said it was going to be a practice to see what it's like and I got an 83. This time I'm actually studying and I'm doing the same thing you are, trying to get a 90.1 so it brings me back up to where I want to be.....you can do it!

Hey! So I freaked out too....but If you read the application it says "the first passing grade (A, B,C) is what they look at...if the first time you took a class you got anything less than a C they will count the other higher grade.

My problem is that I didn't fail, I repeated classes with C's and subsequent attempts were A's. And I am... mad... the change of policy wasn't brought to the attention of registered pre-nursing students. It is what it is.

Took the TEAS today y'all. Got an 82. Daughter got an 83. Not bad for 1st try. Will retake towards the end of this semester, and with more A&P 2.

I totally understand, and I honestly think that is something that should be in big bold letters on the website...I wouldnt have even known about it if I hadn't joined this forum. I just thought I would let you know just in case it applied to you, I'm aure you will do great. Best of luck!

Question. Does anyone know any current ANEW students? ANEW is a serious consideration for me/us. I am a self-teacher and I have no issues with motivation. I am concerned about being given a heap of material to learn and then be told "test on Tuesday". I love study guides! I don't care if it's 2 concepts and 4 pages or 6 concepts in 14 pages. Tell me what I Need to know, and I will.

In that aspect, I wonder how different ANEW is from traditional? Input please?

Hey, I don't personally know them, but there are several people who got into the ANEW program from Spring 2018, so try checking the Spring 2018 Allnurses thread and contacting some of them. As far as study guides and being told exactly what to study, really depends on the professors you get. My Health / Wellness professor tells throughout the lectures what she wants us to focus on and then again reviews the material a week before the test. For pharm, we finally received a powerpoint for exam 3 and that's only because we cannot meet with her over Spring Break. I'd suggest asking any students who are in the ANEW program for your particular campus, because professors are very different across the campuses though they teach the exact same material. :)
