  1. I am currently in the program and will answer any questions you have. Also, there were people in my program from Orlando and Tennessee.
  2. Hi PrincessO

Are you currently attending KU ADN? Can you tell me how it works as far as clinicals (I know its weekends). But how long are they...8 hour days? At hospitals? Are there lab simulations...etc....... I'm curious about the A&P courses, do they have lab assignments like on-campus colleges?

My only concern is the school's ADN accreditation....have you heard anything new about it being nationally recognize...are we as KU ADN students eligible to take NCLEX without issues (contingent on criminal-background etc)

There are students from out of state? That's interesting as they made it clear that I live in So Fla since clinicals are done here....not that it matters anyway.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    hi,

i am not really sure about a & p as i was able to transfer in the max classes. i believe there are lab components at the pembroke pines location. pharmacology does have a lab component at the pembroke pines location. the lab component consists of simulations, lecture, discussions, and math exams. the clinical are on sat or sun only from 7-3:30 or 8-4 at hospitals mainly in the boca raton area. there are also weekly assignments, quizzes, virtual clinical excursions, kaplan review exams, care plans, research papers etc... in my opinion we have more weekly assignments than tradition classes because they are trying to make up for time usually spent in a traditional class. no matter what school you go to every online class seems to be that way.

i would not worry about accreditation for nclex purposes. they are accredited, but not for the adn because it’s new; there bsn has full accreditation. you will still be able to get your rn license in the state of florida. they did apply for accreditation and once they get an 85 %( don’t quote me) pass rate they will become accredited. your concern with accreditation comes when it is time to transfer credits for a bsn program as most program will only accept credits from an accredited school. however, if you have another degree from an accredited school with all the general ed courses complete you will not run into that problem because most schools want an rn license with general ed courses completed from an accredited school. i have two bachelor degrees with all my general ed courses including a & p completed at an accredited school so i should not run into that problem. in worse case scenario you could always transfer to kaplan’s bsn program if you are planning to go for your masters at a non commercialized-private school.

**** thanks princesso for the information! this definitely help. with you bringing over your a&p classes did that make the program shorter for you? how long does it normally takes? i was able to bring over some of my undergrad general ed courses as i have both an aa and bs degree from accredited colleges. however classes such as a&p will be knew although i have take chemistry, physics and calculus (was once an engineer major).

you are on point with online classes because i did 100% of my bs degree online and i stayed busy. it wasn't hard or impossible but you stayed busy!!!!

funny, us news reported like 2 weeks ago that nurses are starting to have issues finding a job (can you believe it after all these years where nursing is always in demand). have read several threads where some nurses with exp in south fla have sent out several resumes and are unable to get a job? are you hearing anything about this or do you worry about it being an issue after graduation?

your welcome! i believe the program is 2 years and three months; it knocked off about five months for me.

i used to worry about it a lot, but not so much anymore. i have a lot of experience and currently working as a pca with tuition reimbursement so that gives me an advantage over some. you'd be surprise the amount of nurses that get turned down because they have no prior experience in healthcare. when i graduate and pass my boards i'll be first in line at my job to get a job as a new grad should a position become available. there was a secretary on my floor who just graduated and already got a job over a newly graduated rn who has been working as an lpn there for many years; this gives me hope because she too was receiving tuition reimbursement so she was one of the first in line to get a position. i also anticipate that the economy will improve even more by the time i graduate; around this same time last year there was only one pca position available at my current job and now there are about 25. also, the more flexible you are the easier it will be to get a job. i also noticed that nurses with experience were getting turned down, but mainly because they were not flexible enough with scheduling or because they only wanted to work a certain floor. i remember a few years ago the hospitals were fighting over nurses and offering incentives and big bonuses to entice them; those day are no longer. there are so many nurses and not enough positions that they are able to pick and choose. you have to be flexible and accept whatever is offered to you; until things improve we are at the mercy of our employers!
  6. @ PrincessO,

Well I may have a challenge myself once I complete Nursing school as I have 0 experience in health field. I did however volunteer for redcross in the pediatric unit of major hospital for about 2-3 months. I am considering applying back to the hospital; perhaps it will help me.

Well I am waiting to start the program in September. And I do look forward to it.

When do clinicals actually start? (With what courses?)

    Thanks!
  7. Clinicals start with Fundamentals. Good luck to you!
  8. i was interested in this online program but since the clinicals are on weekends its a no go. any of u know of a program that u can do like part online and part clinical so i can just travel when they have em
