Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

I am staring this program in December and wondered if anyone had any advise, tips or experiences they wanted to share?

Specializes in ER.

How long does the program take? I'm also curious if they would accept any of my other credits because I already have a bachelors in another area. DId they accept many of your credits?

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

They accepted all my credits that were a B and above. The program takes about as long as it takes to finish all the co-reqs required. You take 1 class every 5 weeks. You can't start the core nursing classes until you have all of the coreqs completed. Because I have about 9 co reqs to take I won't even start the core nursing classes until spring of 2011. Then its about 12 to 18 months.

I have to take:

Gen200 ( which is UoP required class)

Oral communications

Ethics in Management

Statistics

Human Nutrition

Microbiology

Human Patho

Critical thinking

and I have to retake A&P 1 because I only got a C (79) in in because I was rushing and took it at Rio.

They also require alot more classes so in general ed I had 23-26 credit transfer over already in additon to the classes I still need.

I just graduated from the program (I passed my NCLEX), I was in the 5th class, so I was part of the experiement, we had problems. But form what I have read the new version of the program v3, all of our problems have been taken care of. I have a co-work who is taking his pre-reqs and starts in Dec I think. Good luck, its a long program, and yes i wanted to quite a couple of time.

Ok now advice, get to know PowerPoint and Word. Find a APA program, I used eazypaper http://www.eazypaper.com , but there are others (these programs will help you with the APA format.) Your non clinical class's you will have to do a PowerPoint presentation (sometime as a group and as a individulal) you will have papers that are due too. Your first couple of class's these papers and powerpoints will seem hard, but after 10 or so, they are easy. Don't get over whelmed by looking ahead at your next class, just keep focued on your current class. Also, plan a potluck for your final each class (this helps with all the work you have put in.) Plan about 15-20 hrs a week between studing (4-6 chapters a week) plus whatever papers you have to do. Life has stopped for you, sorry to tell you, there is LOTS of information given to you in a short amount of time. But let me tell you, once you are done its all worth it, and graduation was awesome, such a feeling to know that all of the hard work you did was for something... If I can answer any more questions just let me know.

So are the book prices mixed in with the class costs?

First off sorry for my gramer last night man was I tired. Regarding books, yes its a $75 fee for them, they are on line and you can access them anytime night and day. You will have to buy 2-3 books for your clinical class's other then that, everything is on line. Now something that was never explained to me until my last class was, once you graduate you still have access to those books for ever. Just have to log into your student web page at least once every other month to keep your access open.

In your "account" link you will see $xxxx for class, then something like eresource fee $75 (that is the charge for your book)

When do you start Gen 200?

Congrats on finishing school, when I enrolled in the LPN to BSN program one of he requirements was that you had to have been a LPN for a year. I highly recommend getting some time under belt. Good luck with your studys..
